As far as in cylinder Egr, yes they have done that with the cam profile. On common rails, that started in Jan, 2005.
Do you happen to know if the TIER 2 industrial engines around 2005 also used in cylinder EGR ??

I just realized I had an error in my original post, I believe in cylinder EGR started in Jan. 2004 for common rail Cummins. I would say as a rule, industrial engines did not use that technique, but I don't know for sure. It might depend on the size of the egine.

The old 225 was too. Many parts interchanged. Grew up around Jeeps with the factory option for the 225 Buick V6. In the early '70's, my Dad had a CJ5, 225V6, with Hooker Headers, Offy 4bbl intake, small Holley 4bbl, Offy cam. That motor ran good! Especially considering how light the Jeeps of that era were('70 CJ5) and decent gearing.

Buick 3.8/231 is a V8 missing two cylinders. Had to offset the rod journals to make it an even fire. Have a a TI SFI with 296,000 miles on the original bottom
