I have an area of our property that needs to be driven over with the TC40D on a regular basis to move inventory and move discarded cardboard. That's not a problem in the summer but in the winter that portion of the turf turns into a mud-hole quickly with the weight of the Class III New Holland tractor and loaded pallets.

Up to this point each and every spring I have prepped the section and replanted grass but this whole process is starting to get old, fast.

Has anyone ever seen or used the Grass Pave II system? It looks interesting and if you follow the link you can watch a short video on how it's installed and what it's supposed to do.

I'm now wondering if it will work for my particular application. Grass Pave II for a Class III Boomer

I've used a product called Grasscrete that is similar in principal although isn't flexible like Grass Pave. Works well provided traffic isn't intensive in which case excessive compaction of the base usually kills off the grass.

I walked over a place where they had used it with my dog once. I was surprised when I noticed it (and you do notice it when you look down at the grass). Looked good from a few feet away though. Seemed like a pretty good idea.

On our farm, we had a section where we just put in concrete blocks on the side with the holes faced up so could fill them with dirt, then we filled them in and a little extra. That actually worked pretty well. Wasn't as pretty, but made for a firm roadway that still had grass.

I see it a lot in corporate developments, usually for fire lanes. It is very effective and keeps the place neat, except under heavy traffic. How often do you drive over it? You can easily wear the turf out under heavy traffic, i.e. more than 2-3 times a week. I suspect restoration of the turf with the pavers is easier than what you are doing now, though.

back in the 80's i worked for a bomanite licensed company that installed grass crete along with stamped concrete. there was not a big demand for it but we did install it a few times the years i was with the company. the special forms that we used kinda looked like an upside down egg carton. when these were pulled, topsoil was placed on top then screeded off. then grass seed was applied. in my opinion it was no good for higher traffic areas like driveways. the grass would die where the tires always went. but it did not rut, just killed the grass.
do a search under "bomanite", they are based in CA, with licensed installers nationwide..

I'm getting ready to do something like that. I contacted a business that sells cinderblocks. They recommended that I put blasting rocks (rock chips from pits where they blasted rocks from the hill) under the cinder blocks first to provide a base. The blasting chips interlock and will support the cinderblocks so they won't sink under a load. After setting the cinderblocks, they said to fill with soil, seed, and water. If there's any low spots later, they said to use sand to relevel. That's what golf courses us to smooth out the divited area.

At my house back home which I still own, the shop was in the back yard.It was a city lot but fairly large and fronted on a bayou. Anyways, the pull around from the garage to the shop which was an old carrigeway was always getting worn and muddy. I installed a paving brick that had holes in it that where there to allow grass to grow up through it. Heavy traffic would still kill the grass but the mud problem was gone, I like it and still do. Didn't get any pricing as of yet on the Grass Pave but I'm thinking that with just the weight of the Class III machine that daily traffic would surely kill off the grass. More than likely the best alternative for us will be removing 10" of soil, lay landscape fabric, followed by 6-8 inch stone, capped with concrete dust mixed with 57s to solidify the whole area. It won't look as nice but it should hold up to the constant traffic and eliminate the never-ending mud problem I'm thinking.
