Thinking of possible purchasing one it has full cab and swing boom and back fill blade (no angle) and about 2800 Hrs. It has been painted orange and appears to be nice. Tracks seem to be about 75%. Have never owned one of these or used one before. I am thinking of digging footers and digging out brush and tree roots along ditches on my property. They are asking 13,900.00 it is a 97.

Maybe you could rent one first to see how you like it. Could be money well spent,
:)

Nice small excavator only thing if you dont know what your looking at you should bring a mechanic hard to see the differant between a 5,000 and 30,000 machine if you dont know what to look for.

I had a PC 40 that was a great machine. I wish I had it back. I currently have a Yanmar VIO 27. I love it. The quick attach for the bucket is the deal breaker on this machine. I have seven different attachments for it and can change from one to another in less that a minute. It is like having seven different machines on the job. If you are clearing brush, check this out at Steel-tec.

I went and looked at it the pc 27 today, was a nice machine just seemed kinda underpowered I'm thinking I am going to want a little more HP and weight. The cab was really loud and had a ton of rattles kinda felt like i was in a tin can. Tracks were great and the boom had some wear to it. I took my good friend to help me look it over. I Don't think i want a cab at all now. I dug a hole with it and then shoved the dirt with the side and it really did not push it good without working the engine and finessing the controls. No plumbing for the thumb and only a 16'' bucket I am going to keep looking, The spring auctions are just starting here. i think my budget is going to be about 17,000. Thanks guys

yanmar seems to be getting to the top of my list. I'll bet that pc 40 had better power than the one i looked at.

The PC 40 was a power house compared to the smaller machines. I will say that trying to use the side of the bucket to backfill is not a good idea. None of the machines I have ran had much power that way. My Yanmar has remote hydraulics. I just put the grapple bucket on and quick couple it in no time. By the way, that grapple was cheaper than a weld on thumb. I can load a pickup truck bed in three bites with my small machine using it.

I work in the construction field pipeline side of it the most bang for your buck is the cats they have the same amount of hydraulic power at idle as they have at high speeds just faster moving.
