You Guys are making some good points. I would just add steer into the way your tipping. Dont try to steer back uphill you will most likely loose...

A couple weeks ago, I was putting rocks in the FEL.
Tractor was on uneven ground, and the FEL was less than a foot off the ground. The FEL was pretty
full of rocks, and I threw one last one on. The tractor slowly started tipping over. I grabbed the
FEL frame with my left hand and pushed, while trying to unload (heavy) rocks from the FEL with my
right hand. Worked out okay. Problem was the uneven ground, as I've had the FEL loaded with rocks
many times. Always keep it low and slow.

Ever since I've been using TBN, I've been a big advocate of having a large, heavy box scraper when your using your loader. It not only does a better job doing what it was designed to do, but is much safer overall. Droping the box scraper to the ground is a great way to anchor a sliding, tipping or otherwise unstable tractor. When I'm a steep slope, I even carry the box as low as possible just short of dragging. My box weighs about 1000lbs, tractor weighs about 5000lbs. It does a great job of keeping the tractor put and enlarging its footprint. Besides offering great ballast for a fully loaded loader bucket, it also does a better job getting into and leveling your surface. To top it off, a heavy duty box can make even the whimpiest tractor look tough!!!! Hows that for a sales job? Rat...

I suggest you all try this test.
Park your tractor on level ground and set the park brake.
Load your FEL with something heavy.
I used 8 wet fresh cut 10" dia. firewood 18" long.
Leave the FEL about 12" off the ground, just the height you might normally run around the yard with.
Walk to the backside of your tractor.
Place your hand on the ROP about head height and push side ways.
I can make the rear wheel easily come off the ground.
Now I'm no WWF star (170 lbs 5'9"), in my dreams maybe.
Upon this discover, I have discontinued any FEL work without the MANDATORY ballast.
Try this on yours and let us know how you make out.

I have a box blade at the top of the specs that Kubota lists as compatable with my tractor. It does make a great counter balance, but wait, there's more! When doing some heavy FEL work, the ground get chewed up and lumpy, but one quick pass with the box and it's as smooth as a road. And that's not all, it slices, it dices, oh uh oh, Sorry, I got carried away /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.
But seriously, sticking 840 pounds of weight at 12" above the ground at the back makes for a lot of safety margin when you are picking up 1100 pounds at the front. There are several low buck alternatives to expensive box blades too. Around here, guys weld (or bolt) together hookup points for the 3pt, mount them in a wooden box and fill the box with cement. You can get an impressive amount of weight that way for only a few bucks.

well a few things i'd go with and some i would not ,there is a time to hang in ,as most have said stay put is the best hang on with both hands and try and keep legs in. low and slow i'd go with too. one i find hard to follow is droping box blade when it's the FEL that is upsetting things bad habit to get into what would happen if ya have not got boxblade on ???

Yes, I rolled my '78 Ford 1100 on two different occasions. This was a small 2 cylinder 11 HP tractor with a FEL, using a 4' bush hog. After the second incident, I counted my blessings and bought 5" bolt extensions to attach to the mounting bolts on both rear wheels. It widened the wheel base another 10" and worked like a charm. I did not consult Ford about this, but it worked. After that, the rear end would just slide sideways till it was stable. Be sure to fill your tires with appropriate fluid to add ballast. Hope this helps. Count your blessings too.

i go by these rules 1) low and slow 2) if u must cross an uneven area, straight up or down not sideways 3) belt on and if it would start to go, hang on,4) if u must bail out, go to uphill side. think it out before u work, once u are in trouble TOO LATE!!!
