Anyone familiar with these?

Around here they were called a hard hat welder due to the round cover on the top. 20 years a go they were all over the plant but now only a couple survive. This is one welder that would work off of a phase converter because it is basicly an electreic (3 phase) motor turning a generator.

Have any idea how big of a phase converter a guy would need? Not that I need another welder! :D

I have a phase converter I used for a 7 1/2-HP chop saw I built, but haven't used the converter, or chop saw in years.

How big a wheel does that chop saw spin?

18-inch. It will cut 4-inch solid round stock in just a few seconds.

The 250 the OP posted draws 30 amps 220v at 200 amp output. I am guessing you would need a phase converter that can provide atleast 50 amps 220v 3ph. The sae-200 would probably draw a bit less.

Guess I'll have to walk all the way out to the shop to see if the phase converters says how many amps.
If I remember correctly it's 8 to 12-HP.

Well my current work area only has 30amp 220, so I dont think I can quite crank 25 hp.:D Now if I used a diesel.....

No intention to buy it, just had never seen anything like it before and was curious. It's 3-phase anyways, which is why the guy is selling it. He thought it was 1-ph.

That's what we call a fire plug Lincoln around here. Last I saw went for 60.00 in an auction in working condition.
