Anyone get the newspaper delivered to them?

Same as with JerryK, I get the Gaylord paper. Delivery via the post office whenever they deliver the mail. Read a bit and save some for starting fires and draining bacon.
TBN doesn't do a daily newspaper so I have to go online for any 'news'

Most print news is going out of business pretty fast. I used to think that was sad. However, with the state of news these days I can barley stand to keep up to date on current events.

We get two... here by 5 am each day... but too late for me to read as I leave for work at 4:30 am.

Dad delivered the Oakland Tribune starting at age 10... the paper is just something we have always had but it keeps shrinking!!!

We get the Buffalo News at 4 A.M. every day. My carrier for the past 20 years explains that she's a night owl who goes to bed about 10 A.M. after her deliveries.
Just about all newspapers are shrinking, cutting editorial staff, and have an older readership as subscribers age and numbers decline. Fewer readers equals lower advertising revenue. I figure the only reason mine still operates the same as it did decades ago is because the owner is an old geezer (Warren Buffet).

I live in a rural area and they stopped delivery of our news paper about a year ago. They are working towards online only and no print, supposedly in a couple years I won’t be able to pick up a print copy of the Sunday paper at my gas station. I guess I’ll get used to reading it online but I sure prefer an actual news paper

I gave it a try a couple of times a few years back. Figured it would be nice to just be able to stop at the end of the drive and pick up the paper, rather than having to stop at the store on the way home. Mistake on my part....paper wasn't delivered about a third of the time. I was calling the circulation department to complain two to three times a week. I ended up cancelling the delivery.

I figured if I kept on with it I would get such an attitude with the paper that I wouldn't even want to read it anymore.

They seem to go through a delivery person about every two months so it can't be a very profitable business.

On rural deliveries, perhaps. That said, the more papers you have to deliver, I can't help but think that it's more money in your pocket.

As mentioned, what has me perplexed is the local gas station and how they always run out by 0900, added the employees there tell me they've asked for more papers because they're asked for them when they run out so early.

What has me perplexed is my dad's paper came from a "city" with a population of 14,000 people, and he lived about 10 miles away. That said, every morning by 0500, the paper was in his "paperbox". We live about 25 miles away from a city that has a population of 240,000 people, and it's a coin toss on the time it will be delivered.

I've tried several times to get the local large Charlotte paper delivered to my house to no avail. I got it religiously years ago with no issues but they can't get it to me even though my neighbor directly across the road has no issues.

I delivered the same paper for a 4 month period back 15 years ago or so. Had about 200 deliveries Mon-Fri and 250 or so on Sat and Sun. Made about $250 a week gross before taxes and car maintenance. Some of the delivery guys used Mineke and got the lifetime brakes. You would go through a set in about 2 months. All that stopping and starting is tough on your brakes.

I still like to read print but it is a dying industry.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to deliver those papers daily and what was the total mileage driven?

The reality is I have no doubt that delivering to a rural area where the houses are spread out is a lot more time consuming that riding on your bike in a housing development.

All that said, this is where it actually makes sense to ensure that you don't run out of papers where they can be picked up in a very rural area, such as gas stations.

We used to receive the Ark. Gazette paper .advertised as the oldest paper west of Mississippi river.
On time and then was bought out by another called Ark. Democrat Gazette. Now cannot get home delivery and the cost of receiving by mail to expensive . so my sister living in little Rock saves her paper
and will get about 2 weeks apart a stack of newspapers.
All news to me the Obits become a listing of friend and people I know but wasn't called so didn't get the message.

Local paper used to be delivered to home . then once a week by mail but it has been sold to some owner then cannot deliver same week printed and between Wednesday and Saturday will get a very thin paper with the printing so small need magnifying glass to read the legal notices. also this last month had a sheriffs election do to 2 men had less than 50% vote. Never printed who won the election. And so when my yearly subscription expires will no longer renew. This county newspaper is over 100 years and have received for 75 years.

Times change and what was a normal life style is gone Same for the tv. news rather news is a who said what and fact checking says it is a false information.

Do we know what is really happening in the world or just what some one decides to give a comment.
