usually the outer part of the tire has dry rotted so it'll just leak. I had one of the rear tires on my back hoe split open. Since it had a tube in it it looked very similar. Trust me, there's a pucker factor involved as you try to remove the valve core. If the tire ran at higher pressure, like a truck, it probably would of burst.

When I was looking over my father's last new Kubota (2008 L2800) I noticed a grapefruit sized bulge in it. He took it back and they put a new tire on; it was another R1, but from a different manufacturer.
Call me picky but I would have asked for 2 new tires of the same brand; it doesn't affect the performance but if I buy a brand new tractor I want the tires to match.

Appears to be bonding problem. Tire casing is built up, then tread rubber placed around and the carcass and placed in mold to cure at temp. Good bonding goop coated between tread and carcass. This one had a manufacturing screw up. Similar to the truck tire treads you see along the highway except those often fail due to overheat destroying the bond or high speed on overloaded tires - or just plain overuse.

I believe that most of those truck treads seen along the highway are actually from recapped tires.
I have seen aircraft tires that were recapped 6 times.
A/C tire recap failures are very rare.

Found a similar situation when we arrived home from a camping trip towing our 5th wheel. Thankfully the tire didn't let go on the road. If the bulge had been on the inside the leaf spring would have cut the tire. I immediately replaced all 4 tires.
