So far we have gotten about a 1/4" of ice from freezing rain, but luckily about an inch of snow fell first so the ice can be removed pretty easily. Currently it keeps changing from sleet to rain to freezing rain. The temp is hovering around 31.5 F so if the temp starts to drop it may get pretty dicey. They were calling for up to a 1/2" of ice here. Better sharpen the skates to be on the safe side!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Mike I hadn't noticed it on this board. As far as I can tell we had around 2inches here but they must of had more up stream. I just got in from checking on a heifer that is due to calve anytime now. I could still drive out our road almost to the highway. Then had a friend pick me up after I walked around the side of a hill. Really raising fast here still. Had to drive through water to get home.

It snowed here off and on for about 48 hours. Total only about 8-10" in the metro area (1' to 1.5' in the mountains).

The DOT does a pretty good job keeping the roads clear and has the right equipment (especially in the high country). The snow here is kinda dry know as "champagne" powder, good for skiing, but lousy for making snowballs, so it plows/blows fairly easily. After most storms it usually warms up quickly (40's and sunny), so what's left, melts. Sometimes we get re-freezing on the roads and the "black ice" can make driving interesting.

However when it's snowing, it doesn't stop the newbies in their new SUV's from thinking they're invincible. I can almost guarantee a least one or two rollovers during a storm. Good for the collision repair biz/bad for insurance rates...

Here in Ohio right now ice seems to be the big problem. We got hit bad with an ice storm the first part of the week and last night we picked up another 1/2 inch of ice. Salt is a rare commodity right now as most everyone has made a run at the suppliers to get their hands on some. It really doesn't do much good for thick ice anyway.

I have been using my FEL in the float position with the bucket slightly digging into the ice for the past several days. Each pass that I make over it shaves a thin layer off of the thick ice pack. This is really slow going since my drive is about 750 foot long. This is the first winter that I can ever remember ice this bad in Ohio, but hey I guess it could be worse. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

same here (20 miles sw of buffalo) some snow during the night, then rain this morning, nothing to worry about. don't fret spring will come to WNY in about 4 months /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Garry - I just took a pix of the "weather station" at 11:30 in the shade (before the sun comes around) and the thermometer shows 50 degrees. We'll probably hit 60-65 before the end of the day. (Of course it was 10 degrees early this morning...). So with our temperature extremes, you can get the idea that snow doesn't last all that long...
