Re: Anyone have a clue my my A/C will not cool?

Thanks guys, it has been really hot the last few days but house is super insulated and mostly shaded. As for outdoor unit, it is clean no grass no leaves falling it to be cleaned off it still looks almost new.

THANKS AGAIN, GUYS !!! I wasted an hour on Google trying to learn something about the problem and you figured it out in ten minutes....!!!!

It doesn't have to be grass or leaves. The spacing on the fin coils are tiny! Our backyard is dusty because the dogs have a trail close to the AC unit. Keep in mind the fan sucks air and whatever is in the air thru the fin coils. It doesn't take much to clog the fins.

Regardless, your unit should be cleaned yearly.

Take a garden hose and spray from the inside out - forcing the dirt out. Take your time and do a thorough job. After I clean it going left to right side to side, I start over and work am up down pattern.

I spray all the fins with dish detergent/water mix and let it sit for a while, then hose it off thoroughly.

Re: Anyone have a clue my my A/C will not cool?

on the condensor there will be two lines going in one 3/4 and one 3/8. the big one should feel cold and have sweat on it.

Watch out for the dreaded cotton and dogwood trees they will kill a condensor fast.Clean with simple green spray and rinse.

Like one of the previous posters said, remove the top cover of your condensor, wash it out. No need for chemicals, as thats in there is dust and seeds and stuff like are,no grime or grease/oils. I always tell my customers who want to do it themselves:"It should take you almost an hour, and if you not completely wet you didn't do it enough!"

Likely though you have a leak, lenox makes great units, like most, they're not prone to leaks from the manufactured brazing. Look for a leak at either where the condensor is attached to the copper line set or the evaporator joints. The leak will useally show oily residue. If the leak is easily found a fix is warranted. Good luck.

Re: Anyone have a clue my my A/C will not cool?

Just an update guys...company that installed the A/C unit was here earlier today, there was a bad capacitor in the outdoor unit, they charged me $140 for a half hour drive to get here, 30 minutes on site, and the bill included the cost of the replacement capacitor. I thought that an absolute bargain as most places will charge you $100 just to show up. I have done business with the company since 1993, small family owned business and they are reliable and dead honest.
