So here is one more question. What would this be worth if I sold it? I ask because I actually did buy another snow blower. So I guess I'll fix this one up and sell it. I think it's worth it over scrapping it.

7 foot, manual chute McKee/new idea,
Completely sandblasted and powder coated, all new bearings and chain, brand new gearbox. Looks like about the cheapest you can get new is a $4,000 wood Max which is Chinese. Looks like a woods is about $5,300. Used seems to be all over the place along with the level of rust they have.

Update: Well it turns out the gearbox has been discontinued. Their website is pretty misleading it says the price and "usually ships in 3-5 days....."

Sorry about the bad news for you but thank you for the update.

Awesome, thanks so much! Best I can tell it's the same thing. I guess I'll go ahead and order one. The $870 sure hurts though.

What happened was I decided to have it sandblasted and painted. Turns out this place powder coated it gearbox and everything, cooked the seals of course. Great, now I have to rebuild the gearbox. Had such a hard time getting the impeller off the gearbox shaft ended up cracking the gearbox housing in the process.
Pretty surprised a powder coat outfit wouldn’t know better !

I may have a good case for that gear box. Splines on output shaft went bad but case is fine.

Thanks. I may be interested in it. I still have this thing, was about to just scrap it a few times but I couldn't bring myself to, seems like such a waste. I put it up for sale as a project just for a couple hundred bucks, but no bites.

I did find a gear box from agri- can, which looks to be the same in every way except the impeller shaft is 1 and 9/16. I thought about getting that and just boring out my impeller to match, really not that big a deal. That gearbox is like $600.

I'll get it looked up and send you a few pics and dimensions. I'm in Erie PA. I changed mine to a gear box that i had made for me up in Canada. Kind of a stock unit from that company. It can handle up to 200 HP tractor. I had to change height of mounting and mill out impeller and weld in a coupling that had the over sized splines to go to gearbox. I couldn't get rid of old gear box because I knew it was discontinued and someone might need it. The snow blower is a beast so I'm glad you still have it. They don't make them like they used too. If you were closer I'd be interested in it if the price was still like that. We have Johnston's Nursery in Erie PA.

I'm torn what to do with it. Like I said I almost scrapped it. Not sure it's worth my time to fix it up and sell it even if I can get the part for cheap. I already bought a new 7 ft wood Max, which is Chinese unfortunately but seems to work pretty good.
