Anyone have a prepaid wireless phone?

Must be nice. My cell phone bill weighs several pounds. The last one was 69 pages long! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I don't think I could possibly get by with any prepaid plan when, at times, I hit over 9000 minutes a month.

My real benefit is that my office is wherever I am. I'm still waiting for them to get this wireless internet perfected. Unless I'm using the WiFi system somewhere, the cell phone internet pretty well sucks; even for most email. Just a wee bit slow.

We still have Tracfones with the one year contract. We also firmly believe young people should have prepaid only, so that they pay with their resources when their minutes run out prematurely. That is how we approached it with our teenaged grandson, and it seems to work fine. We paid for the phone and his first set of minutes. He is responsible for the rest.

Yes, but if they use up their minutes in the first 3 days, will you be able to contact them or they you in an emergency? I vote for the cheapest no frills, no limit on minutes plan you can afford.

Check to see if your carrier offers a "family" plan. We bought our teenaged daughter a cell phone plan that offers an unlimited amount of minutes to other Alltel customers (parents included) and to one landline based phone number. We, the parents, chose our home number!! (How mean are we!?!?!) The plan was their minimum minutes plan, 300 per month. We told her the phone is for parent-child contact, not a peer to peer network!! When she went over on her minutes she paid us in full before the bill was due or we suspended the service. It has only happened twice in 3 years!! I believe as a parent I need to pay the majority of the phone bill so I have control over the phone!! If she paid for it then I would not have as much control. I don't care how much she talks, but to who she talks and when. I love the detailed billings, it provides us an opportunity to verify what our daughter is/was doing and when.
