We are planning on adding a steam shower in our master bath. This is more for the wife than for me, but low key, I am kind of excited about it. Does anyone have one? Install them? Have words or warning or advice?

It's humid enough here already.

Make sure you have exhaust that actually moves air outside of the house. Many just blow it around.

An acquaintance of mine has one and likes it but he seldom uses it. He said it is great while he is in it.
He's all toasty warm until he gets out, and then teeth chattering cold until he gets dried and clothes on.

No help on this topic,but......

I put in an OUTDOOR SHOWER on the back patio a couple years ago.

Most refreshing thing I've ever done for myself and my wife.

We can't wait till spring comes, and don't like to see fall freezes. Then we need to shower indoors again.

I even drain it after use in the "risky" weather to extend the season. I sure wouldn't want it to freeze and break pipes.

;-)

I definitely enjoy washing off with the hose in the summer and have plans for an outdoor shower spot. Here we don't have much concern with pipes freezing 99.5% of the time.

I wonder if there's a way you could rig up the plumbing so it's like a self-draining/frost proof hydrant such that every time it's turned off it drains.

hmm

then you could use your outdoor shower year-round! 🥶

Make sure to upgrade the ventilation. Don't want moisture hanging around.

Yes, a pair of "winterized hose bibs" could do the job.

But once the pavers and the wooden deck freeze, the ice underfoot is a show stopper,

On a crisp starry night, with the hot water poring over and the steam rising, It's a wonderful world to be in!

Oh here I thought a single line would be enough, you actually have hot water at your outdoor shower! That's swank!

Oh Yea! It's the contrast between the hot water stream and the chill night (or daytime) air that is so enjoyable.

It's sort of like the return of warmth after a swim in chilly water.

It just makes a person smile!

Just make sure that you are ok with the energy cost. They make saunas look inexpensive.

All the best,

Peter
