Anyone Have a Steel Tube Frame Garage, Barn or Shop Building

This a different type than any I've seen.

A lot of auto shops in the midwest have this design, but with almost no pitch on the roof, and a lean instead of a peak.

I have a 24X32 that I have had for nearly 20 years. I was told it would withstand 85 mph winds, but when you look at the framing you wonder. So far, so good. I love it; cost me about 17k with slab, insulation and electrical.

Carolina Carports claims their construction is certified to 170 MPH winds with the 12 gauge framing.

I have a cheaper version carport of similar construction that I bought in 99. Pretty sure it has a lighter gauge frame but I never measured the frame or panel thickness. It is anchored with 4 pieces of 5/8" rebar with one end bent and hammered down on the base which is only black angle on that shed. Not a spec of rust anywhere and it has sat there through multiple CAT3 hurricanes. That is what convinced me to go steel on the barn.

I have an Absolute Steel 40w x 50l x 15.5h at the eve. Tube is 2"x4" with 5' spacing. End walls are 2"x3". Siding is horizontal. Roof is 4:12 pitch making the peak just over 6' higher than the eves. 4 sectional garage doors. 1-12'x14' and 1-16'x8' at each end for drive through. The kit was complete and worked for me as a DIY project.

I have 3 of these buildings and have had no major problems with them and they have gone through some minor hurricanes with no damage.

It is imperative to have your slab absolutely square and with the correct dimensions in order for the building to be built properly.

The only problem I had was that in our heavy, blowing rains, water would come under the roll-up door. I had to build a barrier to keep the water out.

Has anyone tried to get additional posts to modify your tube building?

Are the supplies available to purchase?

When I asked my builder about that as he was putting up the building, he told me that if I ordered more posts or other parts when I ordered the building that they would all come in together but that he can't place just parts orders.
