I was quoted $7200 for a BH90 and would like some feedback before the purchase. Pics would be great too!

Member TxDon posted an excellent photo series on attach/deattach of a BH90 on an L5030 about a year ago. Sorry but I don't remember what the title was.

I don't have any photos of the BH90 mounted or off, but I can tell you I am very happy with it. I have an 3830 and 18" Bucket on the BH. I was thinking of down sizing to a BX24 since nearly all of my dirt work is done, but I can't give up the power. I'll end up with two machines.

Mounting: I intially had problems getting the BH off and on quickly, but after I wire brushed off the paint on the inside of the mounting holes on the subframe it goes off/on in minutes. I also got suggestions from TBN's and that helped too.

Limitations: The limiting factor on the BH90 seems to be the weight of the machine - meaning when I've been into serious rock or frozen ground I lift the entire machine off the ground.

I've dug up at least 40 large stumps, cleared off about 1.5 acres of dense woods on a relatively steep lot, moved approx 600 yards of fill around (now I have a huge lawn and need a separate mower), dug a pond, placed several culverts and numerous other tasks without any problems.

Here is a crappy picture. But it will give you a idea. BH90 on L3130

When we ordered our 3830, our dealer offered us the choice of the Kubota BH90 or the Woods BH9000. We chose the Woods because it has a self contained hydraulic system that runs off the PTO, and the Gannon bucket (18") has an optional "power position" for more digging strength, if necessary. Both backhoes were the same price, and both were subframe mounted.
Your price quote sounds right.

I have a BH90 on a L3830 and am very happy with it.

There is one issue, though. When the backhoe is removed and you're running with a 3pt hitch, make very sure that the stabilizer arms do not swing into the subframe during lifting. I must use only certain holes in the stabilizer arm or risk bending the arm.

I've bent a few and they are only a $75 part but it's still something to watch out for. If you forget to put in the pin, you could bend the arm when lifting the hitch.

I still favor have the subframe mount as it makes for a very strong unit. I just wish it wasn't in the way and wish that putting on the backhoe didn't require removing the 3pt. hitch.

I completely concur. I loved my L3830 (now on eBay - wink, wink /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), but just upgraded to the L5030 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I transferred my BH90 subframe from the L3830 to the L5030 (NOT an easy job, especially since I had to fabricate two new rear axle attachment brackets that the dealer didn't know/didn't advise wouldn't transfer over /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif). I just today went to use my Woods tiller (see other post for the travesty with that unit) on the L5030 and having never before used the 3 point on the L3830, promptly bent my lower right stabilizer arm (that's what I get for not hopping on TBN for the last couple of days - I could have read your post and been warned!). It's likely nothing that cannot be straightened (no, I will NOT be swapping out for the still brand new arm on the L3830...), but that design needs to be better thought out. Now here I am with a perfectly great L5030 and a bent arm. At least it doesn't carry the load. Sigh.

The first time it happened to me I had the service guys straighten the arm in a brake so I could use it until the replacement part arrived. I wouldn't want to go with a fatigued part like that for long, though. The 3830 part was $75 the last I checked so I just replace it.

Like an idiot, I have to admit that this happened to me twice. Now I know which holes in the stabilizer are OK to use and which are not. One of my implements actually had the hitch pins too close together and I had to fix that to avoid the problem.
