Anyone have the Kubota backhoe quick coupler?

Looks the same as Kubota. You need the quick attach bucket(s) not the pin on and the quick attach coupler, thats it....

Thanks Martian. Could you please repost the link as that doesn't work. I'll study the JD system. Looks initially like I could weld some of the adapter pieces to my existing pin on buckets but I'll investigate further.

Is it the eBay page or the pdf that didn't work? Both worked just now for me. I'll repost both though:

I liked the style of this coupler and made one to fit my WOODS BH7500.

It works great and is a simple design.
You use your bucket as-is with no modification necessary.

That is the type of thing I am hoping to build but there is one big problem with that design: the locking pin is the rear pin and that is the one that I have trouble lining up because of the combination of bucket and thumb needing to be precisely lined up while supporting the weight of the thumb and stabilizing the ripper (note it has no flat surface. If there is something like the one you posted where the front pin is the locking pin that would work. I like the one Martian has posted but need to figure out what sort of modification to my existing ripper and bucket will be necessary or better yet, what sort of receiver plate I can build to pin on to the existing implements to make them compatable.

Thanks Martian. The original links work now too so I think I was just having trouble with my computer earlier (thanks Hitman Pro and the devil to whomever developed TDL rootkit malware!).

The quick connect that I made stays on the backhoe dipper stick, you do not leave it on the bucket. Any of the standard buckets that you have (that should include your ripper tooth) should fit this system. You would attach the quick couple onto the dipper stick with your thumb just the same as you normally would for a bucket. Then you connect the bucket or ripper tooth to the lower set of holes in the quick couple. You would leave one pin in each bucket and the ripper tooth for the slotted hole in the connector. Once you pickup the bucket that pin will hold the weight of the bucket and you can easily align the second pin.

I hope these pictures clarify things .

If that Amulet works with the thumb, it might be a good option. Looks pretty similar to how mine's set up but with the pin in the back. Only think I'd question is if it would still be hard to line that back hole up.

Yes, those pictures clarify things. Now I see how the Amulet works. That would not cause any trouble with the rear pin as it would only need to be mounted once. The front pin has never been an issue especially as curling the bucket will let gravity hold it in place while pinning. I can always chamfer the pin edges a tad too.

The Amulet looks like a very workable solution at this point. The only downside I can see is that the added six or so inches of the thickness of the adapter will mean that my thumb will now be shorter than desired and will make picking up small items difficult. I don't quite understand the geometry and wonder if the adapter needs to be quite that tall. I guess if that is a real issue rather than hypothetical then I could always cut the thumb in half and insert a spacer.

Is the Amulet available for Woods BH90x pin sizes and mount dimensions? I checked out Amulet.com which seems to be a pretty new site as many potential links are not yet active. Is Amulet = BillyBobJimmyJoeJack????

L45 M59 backhoe QA 120718.jpgL45 12 in. QA bucket 120718.jpgAttached are a couple of photos of the quick coupler on my L45. As you can see from the tag it looks like the coupler on the L45 is the same as that on the M59 made by a Canadian company called H&H. They manufacture the L45 buckets also as all of mine have H&H tags too. I have spoken to H&H directly to see about other offerings for the L45 and they tell me they can only sell these buckets to Kubota which explains the exorbidant pricing. A buddy of mine has H&H buckets on his Cat 420D and his Volvo excavator so they make a broad range of products.

As MBradey points out the bolt on the L45 is a PIA. You have to tighten the bolt, then pound the wedge in and retighten some more. If you don't, like me, you may find yourself searching for the wedge and bolt that have worked their way loose and fallen out. I lost a couple of hours one day after several hours of loader work when I turned around to use the hoe for a while and the bucket fell off. The bolt had worked its way loose and it and the wedge had fallen out. After walking around for a while I called a friend with a metal detector and fortunately after about 45 minutes of looking I found the two of them ground into the dirt. Of course this happened on a Sunday of a long weekend but I'm sure the dealer would not have had a replacement anyway. My morning check now includes putting a wrench on that bolt and making sure it and the wedge are tight.

I preferred the B26 setup which did not require any tools - just removal and reinsertion of a pin similar to the L39 setup I think. I did not realize the L39 QA was different but maybe to increase Canadian content Kubota uses H&H north of the border. It would be interesting to see if a US based L45 user has the H&H setup or the L39 style. Martian's 110 also appears to have the H&H type of QA but I think more than one manufacturer uses the bolt and wedge setup so it may be a different setup. If you go the Kubota QA route, I know you can by what are called "ears" that you can weld on to your own attachments. When I traded my B21 for a B26, I kept the B21 24" bucket, cut the B21 ears off it, welded a set of B26 QA ears the B21 bucket and then removed the B21 teeth and I had a 24" ditching bucket for my B26.

I have seen excavators with the Amulet QA style and on larger machines the operator does not even leave his seat to change buckets. The pins remain on the bucket and there is a small cylinder between the two "U" shaped pickup points. They push a button to retract the cylinder, unhook and then hook the new bucket with the front U, curl the bucket and then extended the cylinder to lock the bucket in place. The one thing you have to watch with a QA setup is how it the bucket sits versus the manufacturer's pin on version. Some QA setups increase the spacing of the pins which gives you a little more reach but also affects the leverage of the hoe because of the geometry change.

Regards,

Lauren
