Anyone heard of "Foreman" trailer axles?

Why are people so afraid of trailer house axles. Manufactures use to make heavy equipment trailers with the same axles. The only thing you need to do to use them is buy new tires because the ones they come with are one time use, and said right on them for modle home ues only. My Dad and I just built a trailer 2 years ago and it passed inspection by a state trooper so we could get a title.

PS: Check with your local trail house dealer and you can proble get two axles with good brakes for under 200 and they might ever come with springs.

Trailer manufacturers like Dyna Weld used to build equipment trailers with axles equipped with the same rim-clamp hub style as mobile home axles have, but those axles did not have mobile home axle hubs on them. The hubs were deeper and the bearings further apart from one another. The bearings were also larger and designed to cope with heavier loads. The axles themselves were far beefier than mobile home axles are as well. We used to have two such trailers in the rental fleet, so I had the opportunity to give them a far better looking-over during service procedures than a casual "it looks the same, so it must be the same" comparison.

I'm not "scared" of them, nor am I saying they're illegal. There just happens to be a whole lot of mis-information about them out there, and I think it's best to let someone considering their use to go into that decision with their eyes wide open.

They are inferior....there's no getting around it.

i played the axle game a LONG time with inexpensive trailers when i was looking for mine as there always seemed to be some cheep home built trailer that looked as if it would have worked except for the axles.


in the long run i just keep looking for a trailer that had the right axles to start with. so with the right set of axles happen to come with a good trailer attached for a good prices so..... :thumbsup:

The mobile home axle thread is ruining another thread.

I have yet to see anyone post a link to any state or federal document stating that it is illegal to reuse mobile home axles cut to the proper length in any state.

Once again, not saying they're illegal.

Am very much saying they're not a quality product and that the recommendation from the companies that build them stating they're for "limited use only" is there for a reason.

As far as "ruining" that other thread, I'd say that's a matter of opinion. It seems for some folks, the truth about mobile home axles is a little hard to swallow.

i would never say they are illegal to use.

the issue that always seems to come up is that the generally, the one time use mobile home axles are stuck on trailers and when the brakes wear out the owners spend lots of time trying to track down replacement parts for an assembly that was never meant to be serviced in the first place due to its original intended limited use.

nothing about that says they are unsafe or illegal... just hard to get owners to understand that when the brakes ware out, the axles are basically now scrap. shure you can extend the life as tag axles, but when the cheep low quality bearings (again original design = limited use) fail youll be left on the side of the road with an axle that cant be repaired period.

Do not forget about the odd ball sized tires and if you can find one when you have a blow out on a Saturday afternoon they are a pain to get centered.

Does any one have any extra foreman trailer hubs, i come across a homemade car hauler, it has one 1 wide 5 rim clamp, 14.5 tire. I would like to change it to match with the others. Other three are the 5200lb axle hubs with a 5x5.5 lug pattern but rims have been changes to 15in. trailer tires. the spindle size Inner- 1 3/4 outer- 1 1/4. 5x5.5 hubs on a 5200 axle seem to be obsolete. any help where i can find a hub to fit would be much appreciated.
