Anyone hittin their stride with hay?

Yeah....maybe... I find horse people to be real difficult most of the time.
The realistic ones that understand horses can eat an occasional weed without dying, I値l tolerate a little teeny bit of whining from and they benefit from my lower prices.

I'M not difficult to deal with but the wife is..........

Around here - it began seriously - first week of July. Zeus has held off with the rain- so far. Round bales are sprouting up everywhere.

Someone typically stops in by now and asks about haying my 40 acres of hay ground, but no takers so far this year.

It would not hurt to let the land go fallow though as the fields were cleared from forest in 1800. Not in the 1800's, but in the specific year of 1800.

220 years of production is pretty good.

I'm all done and it's all on wheels and gone. Real dry here. Second cut 4 x 4.5's are fetching from 30 to 50 a round squares are pushing 10 bucks each. No precip in sight either. Have not mowed the lawn in a month. Pismuckle brown and crunchy.

Time to service the equipment and tuck it away for winter. Timed it good too. Ran out of net on the last bale. I have 2 fields I need to spray with 2-4-DB. Thats it. Last bale got twine.

If I wasn't watering my garden it would have been a bust too.

We had perfect timing on rain and sun so far. Lost a few bales in 8/2 hurricane. Raining now. May be able to get some 3rd cut

We got in about 500 small squares off my parents fields from first cutting, 2nd is thin, and on the ground now. Hope to bale tomorrow, be lucky to get 200 bales.

Helped out my father in law several times this summer, he does 4x4 rounds, and some small squares, he's finishing up the last of his leased ground today. Not sure his total count, but his 40x96 shed is packed to the roofing tin, 16' to the rafters, 3 layers of rounds, then squares on top to the tin, about half full of the 96' lenth.

Quit doing small squares 5 years ago. In fact I have a nice NH 575 square baler for sale. I want NOTHING to do with small squares. Too old, to much work and horsey people are too much of a PITA to deal with anyway.

Last time I used the 575, I ran wheat straw bales for the local road commission. They bought a 75 acre field of combined wheat with the straw not chopped but windrowed. Nice straight 1/4 mile long windrows. I started promptly at 7AM and ran the entire field in one day, stopping only to replenish the twine box (575 holds 6 balls). I ran just over 5500 kickers in wheat straw, all on the ground. They picked them up with their employees. No touch. Looked like dotted lines up and down the field. I think the bailer missed 3 bales all day. I got 30 cents a bale. best money day I ever had. After twine and fuel I cleared over 1200 bucks.
