Rent me a 72" box scraper for a few days??? I been checking local rental shops and implement dealers and haven't been able to find one to rent. I've even gone as far as trying to purchase one at no avail. Sure I can find 60" and below but haven't found one at 72". I can get one but it will take 2-3 weeks to order. I need to plant 1200 seedlings (fairly quick)and I would like to level as much as possible before planting. The plant area will be on an old corn field. I figured I would use the box scraper to level and pull up the stalks (only about a foot high).

My other options are,

1. Use FEL and backblade
2. Use tiller then backblade
3. Use stone rake

All three can be rental from my dealer which is a few miles away.

Any opinions,
Doug

Doug, Sorry I can't help you even though I live in Fairport. I know Bob James (the JD dealer) rents box blades, but I don't know what size. But I would think a landscape rake would work great on a corn field. If you want to level it just make sure you get one with guide wheels on it. I know it makes a big difference on mine. By the way, where in Rochester are you?

Von,

I called Bob James and they said they don't rent box blades. Maybe I should stop by and check with them in person. I purchased my Kubota from Saxby's which is just up the road. They do rent rakes, maybe I should try this approach first. I think my dealer will let me use it for the day to see if it works.

Thanks,
Doug

BTW - I live in Mendon

I knew that Bob James did last year, at least the one in Fairport did. Maybe they sold the one they rented. I have had better luck with that store than the one in Farmington. How was your treatment by Saxby's? I know they were high on a quote for a buddy of mine on a B2710. ($4 grand higher than Blazey's!) Mine came from Saxby's but I got mine used. When I went to them to trasfer the warranty they wanted nothing to do with me. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif And I bought a used loader and bush hog from them. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif So I have been going to Blazey's for all my needs. Better treatment and are thankful to have your business. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Good luck on your project.

Von,

I called Bob James in Farmington and they didn't have one. I never thought about calling Fairport but I thought they would have mentioned that seeing they are the same company. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I've been treated VERY well at Saxby's. Maybe you need to get to know them before they give you any deals. I've priced out a lot of different combo's and makes. New Holland in Perinton (sp?) was over priced compared to the Kubota. Since Saxby's is only 1.5miles away I bought through them. I purchased a L3130, L723 FEL with HD bucket and loaded tires for 17.5K. The closest anyone came to that price was a dealer in Maine. They were 17.8K with standard FEL.

I've been dealing with Saxby's for years. Maybe that's why I've been treated like gold. I purchased a Ferris zero turn last year from them also at 7.5K.

See ya,
Soug
