No, I'm neither stupid nor do I have full or partial coverage on many things. My KY farm bureau covers 10% of my homes value over out buildings and contents. They are two separate bldgs, storage barn vs. woodworking shop & across the road from each other, so I "sort of have coverage but reality is that each bldg has contents that push that 10% coverage. If I were an agri income tax filer and farming for profit (as I once did) then coverage would vary towards more ag equipment coverage and flexbility.
A 2012 tornado wiped out a town 25 miles from us and rates went up-the recent tornados in KY will move it up even more. FEMA is somewhat of a joke as it's mostly gonna help local government and the few poor folks who don't have coverage, not homeowners with any coverage. I got so tired of them contacting me so I could say it was a waste of time. Politicians sell it. but it's help that never comes.
Another tidbit I ran onto long after I'd been in my woodshop over 30 years-if you have wood heat in an unoccupied bldg coverage is voided, matters not the flue or heating device, etc.. This very common in fact. When I've priced around nobody offered me much to change either-KY farm bureau has a corner on rural property in KY. I wasted hours with a USAA private contractor who sells their rural policies and finally to learn it was far more money. The other local agents all asked if I had livestock and that decided if they would cover me-we keep zero livestock. Maybe I should be a doctor/lawyer alapca farm and cash in?
My RV trailer has zero coverage sitting in my pasture but on road it's covered cheaply via a PU truck rider. My Motorcycles are covered in storage and cheap in KY too. They sit next to a pricey tractor thats "sort of covered". Insurance ticks me off so bad I need to stop here...
Other than fire in an unheated bldg, my tractor is very unlikely to need coverage?
The $500 deduct at $119 yr above is far more than I pay for motorcycles that have far more exposure as they are road vehicles and accidents and liabilities come into play.
