that reminds me.. I've got 3 old string trimmers with bad engines from a long time ago.. I was about to scrap them.. now I need to remember to strip them of useable parts first! ( likely everythint but the plastic guards.. :) )

The power seats in the 2004/2005 Chevrolet Express 15 passenger vans at work have those cables as well.

Speedometer shop can make you one of those for a couple Twofers. I have the tool to do them, it has several different size openings and a hit-it-with-a-hammer piece out the top.
Put the cable in and smack it, turn 90º & smack it again.
What size is the end? Think regular speedo cable is about 1/8", maybe a hair over. I might have a piece that would work. For $900 it's worth a try.

I think that the Grand Caravans us those to connect the drive gears on both sides of the track to the motor. I know I still have a few motors that I've saved for other possible projects....

it is certainly like a speedo cable only shorter. I was trying to google different names and see if I could find a supplier but keep ending up in china. so I did mangage to braze this one back together and it works. not as smooth but it works. The seat is actually in my wifes jeep it has the memory seat so its nice now to have both settings working. To cold to shop wreckers but this spring I will. And whomever suggested the caravan that is a good idea as finding these jeep parts are bit more scarce. Who knows maybe this fix will last forever. It seems the shaft they had in there may have been to long, I cut almost 1/2 in out and still could have taken more.

As stated above GM uses them on some of the later Models. Haven't been able to find the cable in parts book by itself. only listed as part of seat bottom

Whatever it is, it looks like it's shot. before you go to all the trouble to fix or replace you might want to fimd out exactly what is going on or you may be right back wnere you started from. Looks to me like somthing is binding and caused that to fail.

What's it's purpose?....in other words what does it control?......like does it control the seat functions foward and back or raise the seat up and down etc.....it may help if you mentioned what it does or use to....I'd agree with all the other guys....it's not worth tryin' to repair....U need a replacement....I'd start checkin' the auto wreckers for something like a whole seat frame....$100 or less probely get u the whole seat including frame..

I know here in Canada something like seats they like to get rid of these real quick and cheap....we have burn laws here that restrict burning toxic materials..what year and model is the truck?.when I sent my minivan to the wreckers the tow truck driver asked me if I wanted the seats as well since I took off so many other parts...I could have takin' the rims/tires if wanted to follow him up to the wreckin' yard..still got a $100 for what was left...Ampa
