Another way to stop the growth is for the water to be deeper,, keeping the sunlight from getting to the bottom,,
You said the pond had leaks, is it too shallow now?

It’s actually 3-7 ft on shallow end but most of the pond drops off deep fast due to being made from a natural run off which made a type of deep valley gorge. It was built up with high wall of dirt making a dam on its lower side. The pond is currently right at 20ft on the lower side. Averages 10-15 on the upper side though. Only the first 10 yards of the pond is 3-7 feet. If there wasn’t any leaks it would be another 10-15ft deep based on where the drain is located.

If your dam is leaking, I'd take a good look at what is down stream. A slow leak can turn into a trickle, then a stream, and tear out your dam in short order. You may be OK if the pond generally stays below the leak level now, but what happens if you get a really we spring or a couple of major back to back storms? Once the level gets high enough to start the leak flowing, it can erode thing down pretty quickly.

Hard to say what the risk is without seeing your set-up, but worth taking a close look at. Hopefully you or a neighbor don't have anything valuable in the potential flood zone

Yeah good point. I may walk on backside of dam to see if I can find where it’s at. It must be in dam as it gets so low then stops. Never goes lower than that point.

If you don't see anything in the dam, it is possible that the sides of the pond are just leaking out into the ground. That's generally not a risk-filled situation, but it can be annoying,
