 I just had to open this thread to see how "what color grey are front end weights" could go on for 58 posts. Fight the fight!

Find the thread "Pallets in fields" and take a look at that gem. It's gone on forever and still no answer why there are pallets in fields.

Six, the artist in me speaks to paint your weights to match your front axle color. I'm a big fan of continuity in color and marriage. I seem to be able to achieve color continuity a lot better however.

That is exactly what I am going to do with a slight variation that does not violate the artist in me.

Instead of going with the correct Kubota Semi Gloss Dark Gray I'm going with Kubota Gloss. Gloss is the front axle and frame color so good there. The only change is from semi gloss to gloss.

As noted earlier, some weights were actually painted full gloss so I see no problem with that. Gloss looks better long term and I like that. The weights I already have on other tractors that are semi gloss look stale after just a few months of use.

So all is well and know that there is no artist's liberty being taken here.

Is that the Dark Gray Enamel?

Yes. Dark Gray Semi-Gloss is correct for the weights but I'm going with Dark Gray Gloss.

Gloss is on the frame and engine of these tractors post 1989 and semi-gloss is correct for the weights.

Here's a couple of pics of my setup on my 7060.

Hope it helps.

Your front weight bracket, like mine is held onto the tractor with only four bolts. In earlier models there were those four bolts and also metal brackets that bolted to the side rails of the frame. So, we have only 16mm fine thread four bolts holding nearly 1000 lbs. Any concern that's not enough?

I've had these weights and the bracket on 3 different M series tractors, M5040, M6060, and now my M7060...never had a problem.
I think there are 2 studs and 2 bolts. The studs are so you have something to hang the bracket on while lining up the other 2 bolts.

You have me thinking about painting mine, so I am curious to see how your paint job comes out.

I have painted weights before and take my word for it, when you see the job you will paint yours. They go from "Oh, (yawn) Kubota weights" to "Wow, (big eyes) are those your Kubota weights"? It has to warm up a bit here first plus I have to locate the paint but I'll post pics.

The way you do it is to spray the bottom edge first with a spray can. Let it dry and then flip them over and line them up in a long row with a couple inch space between each edge but offset just a bit for paint clearance on the edge. Then you can spray the entire weight, except the bottom you already painted, so it's only one mess in the paint gun and it's all over quickly. I thin the paint with acetone, give a light misting spray, wait a minute and then give two heavier coats and it comes out perfect. Kubota paint is acrylic enamel so it's beautiful to work with and dries quickly. If they have to stay out overnight I cover with a blue tarp to keep the dew off until the paint can fully dry.

Good setup. Brackets like these are becoming very popular as a way to add weight for the occasional need. Pick up when you need and put back down when you don't.
