I just started a tractor business, my goal is to have the tractor pay for itself within the 1st year. With my Kubota, Equipment Trailer, Insurance, Liability Insurance, Estimated Diesel Fuel Usage, Estimated Maintenance, Chains, Binders, Business Cards, Website, Filing LLC, etc. as of right now I am into this business for about $36,000.00, charging $75.00 an hour with everything it will pay for itself in 480 Hours of usage. So it breaks down to getting about 9-10 hours of work minimum per week and the tractor will pay for itself quite easy in the 1st year. In the 2nd year I will have Insurance, Liability Insurance, Fuel, Maintenance which I figure will run me about $3000.00 a year with the same goal of 480 Hours of Business, my 2nd year operating costs will be $ 6.25 an hour, so I should net $ 33,000 a year in the 2nd year or more. Obviously my business estimates are extremely conservative working only 9-10 hours per week. So goal of year one is pay for my upfront investment, and year two and beyond will be profitable years until the tractor is worn out, but I will probably trade it in every few years for warranty and tax write off purposes.
