Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Anyone move snow with a landscape rake?

RedHawk, yes that "groomed look" is what you will get with a landscape rake. I think the advantage over a blade is that you will not be plowing your stone off the road, but will still be getting enough stone to the surface for adequate vehicle traction.

I have a rake that has a steel cutting edge that slides up or down the tines. I bolt a rubber plow cutting edge thru the tines and slide the steel edge down against the rubber to hold it. I have the rubber about an inch lower than the tines, but I guess you could leave the tines lower for the gravel. I also have 225 pounds of weight wired to it for extra traction when using the loader.

I keep my power rake on the back for snows up to 6". I can set the gauge wheels to pull all but a 1/2" of snow off and windrow it to the side, all the while not moving a single rock. More than 6", I use an 8' front blade set so that the skid shoes leave about an inch or two. Works amazingly well. I need chains, though. Somewhat steep hill up means limited traction up. Looking at chain options now. Expensive buggers.

Sounds like the perfect way to utilize the landscape rake I was contemplating selling... I did my driveway last night (about 6") for the first time with my 2660, and I didn't enjoy using the bucket for a ~400'+ gravel drive with grade and turns... I may look to use a rubber/plastic insert on the landscape rake and see what the results are. Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

Will post some pictures maybe after the holiday weekend coming up. Last night I stopped and got some hardware, and a piece of rubber mat, doubled the mat up, and put 4 bolts through the mat with large washers between the tines, I ran out and did my entire drive way again with it... very clean and nice finish!! I left just about 1" of tine at the bottom, to allow gravel to escape under, rather than removing it from the driveway. Cost me $15.99 (with tax) at Menards for the rubber & hardware I bought!! :D
