I'm looking at a L32 or L38 with turf tires. I plan to plow a 800 ft dirt road in the winter and my neighbor's driveways to help finance the purchase (the reason I'm looking at a L). I'd also like to mow the lawn around my house. It's about 2.5 acres which I currently do with my BX. Anyone out there finish mow with a L? It's heavy, but will loaded turfs rut my lawn?

Thanks for the help!

I only have a brush mower on my L3400. The tractor will put the same amount of pressure on your yard as your current BX provided the tire air pressure is the same...heavier but spread out over a wider tire.

My L3800 mows fine! But with a hog and ag tires. :D

Used to mow with a l3700 with R4's and never made a mess of the yard or left ruts. Heck I mow with a MX5100, loaded tires and a loader sometimes when it is dry without a problem.....

This. I hog 25 acres on my (loaded) l3800.

5 or so acres around the house i set the clearance a bit lower for what we consider our "lawn".

With the FEL off it's actually pretty agile around the gardens and trees, leaving only patches to touch up with a trimmer.

The ag tires don't rut as long as I don't hop on right after a rain.

That said, whether it works for you will depend largely on how open your mow area is, your soil type (compression wise) and how fine of a cut you get from your attachment finish mower (or hog if it's a "country lawn").

I have a Kubota L4400 with ballasted AG tires. I mow our 1/2 acre yard with a riding mower. I mow another 2 acres just outside our fenced in yard, with a BH 286. I mow the outside two acres when the ground is dry. I have seen no apparent damage or ruts yet by utilizing this method. Mowing in wet ground would definitely be a different matter. i use the FEL and a 6 foot BB to maintain our driveway. Best wishes.

I have an L3700 with a brush mower and in grassy areas see not evidence of tire marks. In areas of no grass but the clumps of native weeds, I can see the tread marks in the dust, but no ruts or serious depressions. When wet, I can see small depressions from the tires, but then I saw similar marks with my Scotts riding mower too.

I had a L3240 FEL with loaded R/I4 tires and I used it to mow using a 6' Landpride Rear Finish Mower and used my BX closer to the house. Never had problems with either one when it was dry but I have a yard and not a lawn.

I used ti mow with my L3400, ag tires, and a RFM. Did that for 3 or 4 years before I got a ZTR. Never a problem for me. Looked as good as any other counrty lawn. Just dont expect a nice golf-course look.

Over the 22 years we've lived here I have been upsizing mowers. The most recent change has been replacing the B7500 (+60" Landpride side discharge) with the L3200 (+72" Landpride rear discharge) and I wish I'd have done it years ago. I should note that the FEL is almost never on when mowing and the rear tires are filled.
