Anyone Roll Coal with a Tractor?

Some of the big tractors and trucks use multiple stage turbos (up to four) and even add a little water to keep from melting pistons.

I consider it the best indication that you are getting full power from the cylinder charge. My 7520 will not smoke black even when lugged down. I would like to steepen the fueling advance rate to the point that black smoke will start as RPM lugs down to 75 or 80% of the no load setting.

Wow! A lot of uptight people here. I'm sure there are bigger and worse things WASTED in this world than a few pints of diesel. Sheesh, gimme a break already.

Yeah, it was for "jollies" and so what, there are a lot of things men and women do for "jollies." I'm guessing none of you naysayers ever spilled a little fuel or did something for fun that others didn't necessarily approve of.

Sounds like the little three banger Iseki isn't up to playing my game. I'll have to get my jollies watching others and blowing my Dixie Air Horn to sound my approval of their shenanigans. LOL! :D Maybe some day I'll 'grow up' and get my own roller. HAHAHA!

By "rolling coal" do you mean retuning the engine for more power?

The engine in your tractor appears to be a 1.1L Iseki. Doubtful there is much in the way of tuning available.

How much do you intend to spend?

Yes more power!
If you are referring to my 1720 Ford the engine is a 1.5 liter.
The nice thing about most diesels is that you don't need injectors or a reworked injection pump, you just need to know where the adjustments are to increase the fuel rate and hi idle rpm.
I spent no more than $150 on a turbo at a swap meet and various silicone hoses and fittings.
My turbo is a Garrett GT1752 that came off a Saab and that cost ne $35.
Some would go and buy a larger tractor if theirs lacked the power to do the job.
I on the other hand find my tractor was perfect in all respects except that it lacked the power I wanted.
My tractor has been paid for years, I know what I'm doing and this was a fun project for me.
I don't roll coal for the fun of it but my little Ford will (briefly) when it comes up against a heavy load that would previously stall it.
I agree it is senseless to (roll coal) but it is an indication of engine loading and also that a lower gear is needed.
The reason I even thought about the turbo addition was that during the winter I would have 4 feet of snow in my driveway and this required me to constantly use my clutch to prevent stalling. My concern was a premature clutch failure plus the fact that it was very slow cold process when the temps were subzero.
The added power allows me to bust through nonstop and complete this unpleasant job much faster.

I really don't care how much fuel someone burns. What matters to me is where they do it. I've gone to - and thoroughly enjoyed - tractor pulls. The choice was mine to be there. It is very annoying to be behind someone pulling this stunt on a public road where you have to breathe it in. I consider that behavior the same as crapping in a public pool.

Maybe a dumb question, but curious if anyone has or knows how to roll coal with a tractor. I have only a GC1705 but.... Just thinking out loud. Maybe I just need to get me a diesel truck. :D

Check out Super Stock or Pro Farm pulling tractors on YouTube. They should satisfy your black smoking tractor interests.

No it's slang for making your Diesel truck emit thick black smoke under acceleration. It's a redneck fad that will hopefully die soon.

This seems to be a little bigger than yours but once he got it started it does blow cute little puffs of black smoke.
