Anyone running one of the new Dodge hemi\'s?

Has anyone out there got a Dodge 1500/2500 with the new hemi? Whats the verdict? What kind of mileage do they get? I'm kind of looking for something to replace my '84 dually that I can also use as a daily driver. The hemi seems like the best compromise between having a truck with enough HP to pull a decent sized trailer and something that won't break you to drive everyday. Yes I know diesel is an option too, but for $5,000 more on the front end and the other various issues, I think I want to stick to gas.

I have a 1500 reg cab SWB, 4x4, laramie with the Hemi. 13 mpg. Suspension is miserable. Its a sport truck and I would never buy it or reccomend it to some one who wants to tow with it. In my opinion it is just short of hazerdous on the highway. Even the slightest bump sends the fronts suspension skipping and you feel the vehicle is out of control briefly. It is fun around town and yes it is fast. It lacks the low end torque to do any real work but then I am used to a diesel. If they fixed the front end I would give it two thumbs up. If you teast drive one get it on the highway and hit a bump cornering. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Dave

I test drove a 2500 a few months back and it seemed to handle fairly well.

The mileage on the sticker for a 1500 states something like 13-20 mpg. So, that is not to shabby.

Another surprise was the polutants - somewhere around .30 which is really clean.

I've been trying to convince the CFO that we NEED a new truck, but alas and alec - a veto everytime. Something about her needing a new car. Life is just not fair..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

They run fast and have some get up and go. From the people that I have talked to that have them (yes I'm passing on rumors).

They get about 11-13 empty on the highway, loaded with a 7,500 pound or greater trailer they get about 7-9mpg.

I did have tranny problems on the Dodge at less than 500 miles. two new trucks this year both with slush box trouble under 500 miles /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif The Hemi as now at 4k with no further trouble. If you test drive I was told that there is a progressive limiter chip that allows the HP out gradually. I did notice a slight improvement at 1k. I did not drive it again untill I put Mobil 1 in it at 3k. After that I started getting 13.5 mpg but the HP change was very noticeable. I get 13 ish city/highway/towing/uphill/downhill its very consistant. I have not towed anything over 3k #. Dave
