I have the Frontier RB1072 and the i-match. The top link is dialed as far in as possible to minimize the blade edge from cutting into the ground. But I still get a washboard effect - the blade is bouncing and cuts into the ground, then bounces, cuts, etc. Wondering if anyone has experience with the skid shoes and if they help.

I have the shoes for mine and like them, but if you are chattering, you are likely going too fast.

Chattering begins from the moment I start up in low range... my driveway goes uphill and I simply can't build up any 'speed' to speak of - in fact, by the time I get about 40 feet, the engine really bogs down. Then, when I get on the dirt road and head downhill, I put it in high range - and the chattering goes away completely.

I'll probably go ahead and get a set, thinking that (1) it will help reduce the 'chattering' by separating blade from direct contact with the ground and (2) perhaps help with the bogging down.

Yes, they help on gravel driveways keeps the blade from digging up the surface. I don't use them on pavement.

I would not consider using a rear blade without skid shoes or a rake without gauge wheels. Being able to set depth of the blade makes the tool much more useful. I winter I use the blade for snow clean-up on a gravel drive (after plowing with my truck & plow) and the skid shoes allow me to set the blade just above to gravel so as not to dig in.

I am curious , any one have a pic of these skid shoes? I never saw a pair, are they similiar to plow shoes on a snow plow? And how do they mount on the blade?

Thanks ,

I'm wondering if you're angling the blade or using it straight across the back of the tractor? I've had better success using the blade angled to reduce the chattering effect. However......I have since added cupped snow plow skid shoes to my blade that I have grown to appreciate.

mtg65,
Thanks for the pic , they are like on a snowplow, almost identical as the pair on my four wheeler plow.

Here's a picture of the shoes on my Rhino blade. They help on my gravel driveway, but I always leave an inch or so of snow that likes to turn to ice after being driven on. Still it's better than taking off a layer of gravel by trying to plow a little closer.
