TBrown,
Do you think your father is using that Northern Tool Air Compressor anymore. I have searched everywhere and cannot find one of those Northern Tool models and I think they were exactly the model I need for my fence painting project. I'll send you my email in a PM.
Thanks
Ramon

I have been toying with this idea. I have the left over parts from my old 2hp electrict compressor, with cast iron pump. The air tank rotted out on it(another story). So, I saved all the parts.

I just have not made it past the "toying with the idea" stage yet /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It is popular on Jeeps and other 4x4's to use an old air conditioning pump, and run it off the crank pulley just like a standard AC, PS, ect. I have seen this done; it works really well. Lotsa folks go off road, air down thier tires, and need to air back up when they hit the pavement.

A YORK A/C compressor can be driven from the front of the engine. It makes plenty of air for the chores your looking to do. kilby enterprises has alot of information.

Ramon I built one when I was 15 for my Farmall cub. It uses the vbelt pulley for the mower on the back to run the compressor. It was an old refrigerant compressor it resembel aregualr compresso head though. I had an air tank with a set of safety valves on it. I aired up many tires and blew out filters and ran small air tools. I have seen them made from the old Piston type AC compressors that the old Ford cars used. You can make a Jackshaft to speed them up a bit to.

They do make them. The next time I visit my neighbor I will see who built his unit. He uses his in his vineyard and orchard to run air shears for trimming vines and limbs. It has a built in stand so you can unhook it from the 3pt quite easily. It is about 30"x30"x36" tall and he can run at least two shears off of it at one time, maybe more but I don't remember.

Robert,
Wow, thats sounds awesome, you'll have to let me know (esp the brand). After I find the compressor, I'll be looking for those shears/pruners as we have a lot of grape vines as well and that would be a huge help (I spent 3 full days pruning last winter)..Thanks for the awesome info!!

GH Meiser is still in business, they are now making the "Accu-gage" line of products for motorcycles and atv's. beware, their customer service is terrible, if you try to contact them. empty promises seems to be the name of their game. GH meiser link

Old post, but, worth to "up".
Northstar compressor is not being manufactured anymore. Instead, today pto compressors are similar to the one being sold by Bare-co (mentioned above.) But, this bare-co model can not be used for painting as this compressor does not supply continous air flow. Northstar does. Hey, long time ago, we had made cast pattern of a compressor similar to Northstar model. If people still need this pto compressor, i can have some casted.

Besides the fact that the bare-co air comp that nomad mentions as not being able to be used for painting, because it does not provide for continious air flow.. or any other pto pump that is just a setup of compression cyls and valves.. I see no reason why an air resevoir tank couldn't be hooke dup inline with a filter and regulator to acomplish painting...

'can't' and 'never' are some pretty tricky words... usually only takes 'money' or 'ingenuity' to overcome 'can't' and 'never'.
