dfkrug.....I'll try to get a few of those measurements for you but it is out at the farm and it's almost an hour drive out there each way. I should be up there this weekend though.

Great!

I see that you have edited your posting. I think you made an error and
listed shipping as $20. You should change that before the auction is
over.....it may obligate you to shipping at that price. Be prepared for
all bids to occur at the last minute.

well my backhoe went quite a bit cheaper than I had hoped. I guess I'll see what the tractor does next. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I wish I was in little difft financial position right now, I'd buy it from you. I think it's a real solid buy on an excellent tractor.

It's about $5 grand out of my range.

If it was for sale thru a dealer, it could be financed at a pretty decent rate.

Lee, why didn't you sell them together!?

The problem with selling backhoe attachments is the buyer has to figure
out all that stuff about subframes and hydraulics. And most buyers are
not very handy when it comes to those issues. BTW, I am convinced
these subframe and hydraulics issues are why dealers selling non-OEM
b/h attachments push the 3-pt mount and the PTO pumps.

I would have happily paid the price you got if you were in my area....
and I don't even need another hoe.

If you sell on eBay you will run into a cross-section of society. 95% are good and honest. But 5% will scam you. Be careful with bank certified checks as they are being counterfeited. PayPal is intended as a payment method for shipping an item by an independent shipper that can provide proof of shipping. If you accept PP for an "in person" payment with pickup get a copy of the buyer's driver's license with a signed statement that they have picked up the item. Even then you might be at risk for a potential chargeback request from the buyer. All the buyer has to do is say to PayPal that the item was never received, and then you as seller are hanging out on a limb with no proof of delivery.

In honesty I've never been scammed on eBay even though I've sold 7000 items since 1997. Never had a check bounce and never been scammed for any serious money (except an occasional non payment). I try and be careful. Having sold through eBay with only 3 negative feedbacks also means that customers know that I probably will not scam them.

When buying a tractor be careful about the potential for being sold an item that the buyer doesn't really own and has an outstanding lien against it as it was financed. I'm no expert on this subject, but I am aware that the possibility exists that you may think you bought a tractor but find out that a finance company owns it. Tractors are not like cars that have titles that prove ownership. This determination is not easy to do for private owners(because proving a negative is difficult), so it makes selling them more difficult than you might think. Anyone else have any experience here?

I always look at an item if it is within driving distance before bidding and especially if the seller doesn't have a good record. I've seen too many descriptions of cars, implements (in person) that don't match reality.

BTW use high resolution large images that you host yourself if possible and not those small blurry eBay hosted pics. The more the better.

Yeah, that will happen all the time with guys wanting to know your reserve or if they can buy it now, but then they never bid on it.

I bought my tractor with fel, backhoe, rotary cutter, box blade and post hole digger on eBay. Also bought a really nice Arctic Cat 4x4 ATV. Had one of my Harleys on eBay but didn't get my reserve. Just sold a large business phone system for big bucks the other day. I must be one of the lucky ones not having had any problems buying or selling ... knock on wood.

I assume you're referring to your Kama.

Where was the seller located? Local (i.e. less than 500 miles distant).

If not, did you pick it up yourself?

Or did you hire someone to transport it?

If so, any recommendations on shippers you'd use?

Yeah, it was my Kama.
I bought from a place in MO about 2000 miles away. They used (contracted) a delivery guy who did that for them. I did have to wait until they were shipping some other stuff out West this way. That took a month, but they led me to believe it would happen right away. (They neglected to tell me this part) Once I paid them 1/2 down, I was stuck. But at least we talked everyday on the phone so I was aware of what was happening and knew I'd get my tractor on a certain date.

He used his own rig, a big Dodge 3500 I think and his own trailer to get it out here. He was a guy that they used regularly for local deliveries too. Turns out he was the best one of the bunch. I got no support from them (the dealer) but that's what I suspected. I got the warranty for parts and service, but never used the service. I did call them for parts that were missing and they shipped them out to me later.

Your best bet is to hire someone to ship for you. Someone local to where you are buying from. Give him a bill of lading with everything that needs to be on the truck and have him check it off when he picks it up. He will provide insurance till it gets to your place.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you didn't have more trouble than you did.

Your experience gives me increased confidence about buying something on eBay that's located East of the Rockies.

BTW I'm a MO boy transplanted now 18 years in CA (and loving it).

Not surprising that you had to wait until the shipper had a full load before heading your way.

When I relocated to CA I had a two-week wait until the Atlas moving guys based in Huntington Beach booked a full load for their van before picking up my stuff and heading West.

I bought my first tractor recently over EBay. It was a very positive transaction although I took many precautions.

At the end of the day, much of the transaction was based on trust. The guy was willing to talk to me extensively about the condition of the tractor, and send me digital photos of the machine. Including specific shots that were damage or wear areas. His openness led me to trust him. And I hired a mechanic in his town to inspect the tractor at my expense.

Each transaction and each person will be different. So I recommend caution but I also say that good transactions can be had over eBay. Craigs List too.

From a sellers perspective you basically need to be 100% certain and confirmed that the money given to you is good. In the case of funding of the transaction, I believe that everything including green cash needs to be verified. Cashier's checks and green bills need to be positively certified as good. If the merchandise leaves your back yard, you will spend a lot of money getting it back if you can at all.

Honestly, I'm almost more comfortable buying from someone on Ebay than from someone in the local paper.

I said "Almost"

Do you ever wish that the local paper had a feedback rating next to the guy's ad to tell you how well his past transactions have gone? I sometimes wish I could leave negative feedback on some guy's front door.
