I bought a new-to-me older diesel Ford pickup. It's in great shape but has some frame rust I would like to neutralize. Could I just get a couple gallons of fluid film, a gallon garden sprayer and spray the underside myself? Has anyone done this? Is the viscosity thin enough on a hot summer's day? I don't want to use a higher pressure spray gun.

Truck is only for summer use so whatever I spray will likely stay on. I'm sure this topic has been discussed but I can't seem to find a thread.

Fluid film will not stop rust.
I spot treat my surface rust areas (mainly welding area)with Rustoleum's rust reformer. Spray paint. No rust coming through "paint" 2 years after spraying. Always hated the look of the drippy gunk people spray on truck, every year.

If you plan on keeping it and spraying it annually FF has sales and their sprayer does a good job. Especially if you can do it on one of the hot summer days we've been having. Pick a nice 100 degree day and the FF should flow easier. Get the FF or Woolwax and try it with your garden sprayer soon, and if it doesn't work you'll have time to up your sprayer.
FF/Woolwax is mainly sheep lanolin. But it's easier to spray than it is to rub sheep on your under carriage. :)

Fluid Film in the spray can is thinned. Think I can thin it in bulk and use a garden sprayer with a big nozzle?

^ This. When I find a bit of rust under the truck, it gets a quick wire brush, then rusty metal primer and black paint. The rusty metal primer has acids in it that supposedly halt rust and bond very well to it, based on my experience using them the last ~10 years.

Do note "rust reformer" is for things so rusted they're almost beyond saving. The "rusty metal" primer is likely the one most of you want.

it absolutely stops rust. i haved used it for 5 years, and the **** is amazing, for a an area where stuff rusts in an hour.

to op, you will not get it through a sprayer, I bought the actual kit, i actually wrap the cans in electric heating pads before spraying so it comes out clean

the kit comes with wands that spray sideways, this is invaluable if your not using a car lift, even if you are, you will never get it inside the frames or or above anything with the type of coating required. link below to a similar kit i bought

absolutely does. i have tried multiple types of paints including por 50 and variants and they all rust through eventfully, if you keep up with the film (lasts a year) anything under it doesn't rust.
