Anyone Start there Tractor Just to Hear it Run?

I would never consider starting an engine unless it is needed for work. You are polluting and wasting precious resources; not to mention your kids breathing in all that foul air!

Its been a long winter here with not much snow. Its too muddy to take the tractor out when the ground is not frozen so when it got up to 50 degrees I started up the tractor, just to hear it run. I cant wait till spring when I can put it to work again.

Are you implying there are people who wouldn't start it just to hear it run???? There are dreary cold days at work that simply thinking about starting it (or my truck) makes me feel better. I know, I know, my wife thinks I'm crazy too. LOL!

No, I would rather let a tractor sit than start it up for short periods of time. Particularly when it is cold. Starting them and running for extended periods of time where the engine gets hot under load is what the engines are made for.

guilty as charged. however I try to find an excuse to use it running, like lift my plow in air to check my welds, etc. you cant exactly do it when its not running right? :thumbsup:

I've several diesels, 2 tractors, 2 Fords and a VW. I try to NOT use them unless I'm needing their POWER. Now chainsaws are another thing.
I've 6 chainsaws. Due to ethanol fuel and carbs gumming up I try to start all of them at least one every couple of months.

The sound of 4 Stihls idling (021, 660, 660, 088) is truely musical.

Sorry. I do have a clip in my iPhone of one of my my tractors running when I am clearing some brush. I watch and listen to the clip every now and then. Does that qualify to let me back into the party? It saves fuel and wear and tear doing it this way.
