Anyone think gun/ammo prices will retreat now ?

yes I think supply will catch up and pass demand and prices will fall. It will be cyclical though so watch for buys on firearms and ammo as dealers want to reduce inventory now that the scare has subsided and especially for fiscal year end. Might be some good xmas deals! :cool2:

The ammo prices have already fallen from last year. Some pistol prices have dropped again too. (Just this past month.) And I'm not sure why you would think gun prices would fall along with stock prices. It's usually the other way around. Stock price is based on an earnings ratio. When stock prices fall it means buyers/sellers think the company will make less money. The normal company response is to cut expenses or raise income (prices). You don't fix lower income by taking in less money.

Supply and demand my friend. Yes you can fix lower 'income' (sales) by reducing the price. Stuff on the shelf doesn't help.

I was hoping that the supply pipeline will fill up with much less demand (and way less hoarding). if the pipeline fills, there should be far less "scalping". There is absolutely no reason that .22 rimfire should be even $40 a brick... The prices of the raw materials if anything have went down and labor hasn't risen that much either. The only reason for the higher prices is because they can get it. If people will pay it, then that is what something is worth. When people will not pay the price that is asked then the product can stay on the shelf. . It would seem to me that if they have the ability to lower the price, and I believe they do, then they will lower it. I am no economist, and I did not stay in a holiday inn last night, but I think this is the way it works.

I figure it will come down eventually, although not to pre-Obama prices. Best plan is to wait until it bottoms out and start putting some back in reserve for the next scare. Not a lot at a time, just like putting food reserves in. I'm still kicking myself for quitting buying bricks of .22 at Bi-Mart when it hit $10 a brick.

My son walked in last night with 100 rounds of 40 & 45 each, said it was right at $100, i told him that wasn't a smart purchase even if the 45's were for my B-Day:confused3:

I totally agree. The price jump happened because of paranoid hoarding. Posters on this thread that have a lifetime of ammo squirreled away contributed to that.

This old man remembers back in the seventies when you could buy a cup of coffee for ten cents about anywhere. Then a coffee shortage occurred and coffee went to $.25 overnight. Once the shortage passed, coffee stayed at $.25 because the restaurants accidentally discovered enough people will still pay it to more than offset the small drop in demand. Ammo could be like that.
