Tractor
2006 John Deere 790
I plan to use a Car hauler with tandem 3500lb axles to haul a John Deere 2155 with a 145 loader and impliment ( KK 72" tiller). The tractor alone weighs 5000lbs plus whatever the loader and tiller weighs. The trailer I am looking to get is like this one

Wow, you will overload that trailer with that tractor and implement load. I use a 10k rated car hauler for my 4500 lb (total) tractor, loader, and single implement. Trailer alone weighs 2500# as weighed on a DOT scale. Makes for a 7000lb towed weight.

Yep, nothing wrong with a car hauler but that one is a little light after you add the weight of the trailer to your tractor, loader, and implement.

The trailer you show is a typical lightly built trailer sold at low prices along the side of the road. It probably weighs about 1500# empty. Add a 5000# tractor and you are at 6500#. Add at least 1000# for the loader and bucket and you are easly at 7500# and your twin axel are maxed out. A 6' KK tiller is probably going to be in the neighborhood of 750# give or take. That puts you at roughly 8250#.

You are overloaded and unsafe. If people tell you that those trailers have safety margins built into them, then I'd be willing to look them straight in the eye and call them liars. That is a very lightly built trailer from what I see. It appears to be made with angle iron, even the frame looks to be angle iron instead of stronger box steel. I can't tell if the decking is 1x lumber, deck board, or 2x lumber but it appears to be deck board. Now bear in mind if your tractor weighs over 5000# or if your loader weighs over 1000# then you are even farther over the capacity of the trailer.

You need a 12,000 trailer, it will give you roughly a 10,000# payload. If you want to pay big bucks, you might be able to get an ALUMINUM 10,000# trailer that will give roughly an 8250# payload, but then you will be running the trailer at full capacity and that is not a good thing to do on a frequent basis.

I should probably say at this point that I used to own one of those cheaply built trailers. My neighbors welding shop repaired it a couple times and then I finally gave it away. I should also say I never loaded it to full capacity but I broke several welds. I now own a custom made heavily built trailer. **** glad I spent the money too.

If you are talking about a 2155 ag tractor, then you are closer to 5400lbs. Minus 15-1800lbs for the trailer, and the tractor alone will put you right on the limit. I would figure 5500lbs for the tractor, 800 (to be safe) for the tiller, and 900lbs for the loader. 7200lbs of load, 9000lbs gross.

As the trailer is rated for more weight, the weight of the trailer goes up too. Figure an estimate of 28-3200lbs for a 14,000lbs rated trailer, so your right around 10,000lbs load. As I, personally, have never seen a trailer rated for 9000lbs, it's most likely you will have to go up to the 14,000lbs trailers.

I have been using a car carrier but im killing it, in fact i broke a spring last week. It was fine for my B7500, But my B3030 HSDC with fel & implement and a 500 lb aerator or ride on spreader and shes really overloaded! Im going to an equipment hauler next week. I think i can squeak by with an 8000 GVW.

Surley cost is an issue..it is for me.
The cost of new trailers has really gone sky high with the big cost of steel today.
And yes that is fairly cheap made trailer as a matter of fact way cheap!
Do yourself a favor and look around for a good used trailer with 5000lb
or 6000lb axles.

Here's the rig the dealer used to deliver my Kubota B7510HST/LA302 FEL in Jun05. Tractor/FEL weigh about 1900 lb. He said he delivers stuff weighing up to 3000 lb with this trailer and has a bigger one for the larger tractors.

Hi Bob, I use a car hauler for my tractor. 16', 7,000lb. gvw. Similar to the one you pictured. It has 3,500lb. axels. Tractor is a JD 4300 with loader and whatever implement I am using. Normally total load is 4,400lbs. Trailer is about 1.700lbs. I have had no problems hauling. I would like to replace the trailer with a gooseneck with about a 12,000gvw. I have worked my trailer too hard hauling large bundles of fence posts and pallets of decorative rock. Some of those loads were 6,000lbs. Jim in Murphy, Idaho
