I think it will work better for washing the wifes rocks than for cleaning metal parts.
We have a cement mixer. Never used it to clean rocks before. But used rocks to clean the mixer. After done for the day, load it up a bit with some 1's and 2's limestone (2.5"-4.5" stuff) and some #4 gravel (1"-2" stuff) add water and let it tumble a bit. Mixer and rocks both come out pretty clean after about 30 minutes of tumbling
