Chipper Anyone use a PTO chipper?

My B3200 has 23 PTO HP and it runs my BX62 fine. Can I feed 6" hardwood down the throat? No, but I would use that for firewood for the woodstove and hottub anyway. It has no problem with 3"-4" hardwood and 4"-5" softwood. I have fed larger but I have to pull back and let it pick up speed. I wouldn't make a habit of it though. I bought this one slightly used at a ridiculous price and also, you never know when you might trade up. according to the wife. Another thing I have found, when you're chipping fir branches if you feed a hardwood stick through occasionally it plugs up less. I don't regret buying an oversized unit at all.

Thanks. That was what i was thinking too, a bigger opening for brushy stuff. I'd really like the bx42 but haven't found any used yet.

The following video of a small tractor with relatively large chipper (6") in operation is perhaps of interest:

The chipper has hydraulic feed rollers with "no stress" control. This control system monitors the speed of the chipper disc, if is starts to slow down a lot it stops the feed rollers to allow the machine to clear before automatically beginning to feed again. You can see this in the video when large stems are fed in.

I have had use of one of these chipper for a day (trailer version with own engine). It worked very well - no blockages.

If you have a smaller tractor, but would like a bigger chipper, this may be the solution.
