Anyone use Amsteel Blue Rope?

Good points fellas about the rope types. I can personally vouch for the amsteel blue not being a stretch rope. We snapped a 1" rope yanking a power center underground and the rope looked like an explosion happened inside it, but it dropped right to the ground.

Yep, they have minimal recoil. Less than a steel cable. But if I'm doing a pull that is going to max out the winch I still like to throw a jacket or shirt over it at least.

always a good practice! The viper winch I have for loading the GN came with a winch blanket. That was pretty cool for the manufacturer to send that along!

That is very cool. I didn't know anyone did that. Warn sure doesn't.

Well the viper winch was significantly cheaper than warn. It is a 12k with the amsteel rope and IIRC it was less than 800?? I use it a couple times a year for various things. It has always pulled everything I needed to move. It also came with a wireless remote and a hard line winch controller, a hook, a pulley along with the blanket. If I had to rely solely on it for work, I'd probably spend the extra coin on a Warn.

They don't have a 12k listed, just the 13k but for $500 buckets its tough to beat! https://motoalliance.com/Site.Store.go?action=gotoProductDetails&id=1386

I have a 4k vipers on my atv it has been rock solid. I replaced to 3k warns before getting tired of spending money on the warn and going with the cheaper viper. So far the viper has been way more reliable. The "sealed" warns go bad fast being submerged under water the viper keeps on ticking. Have a 12k warn on my truck been about 10 years now and it has been good so far but if it ever goes I will seriously consider the viper on there too with as much luck as I have had with the smaller one. I run amsteel on both winches and it has been great. Started running it after I saw a steel winch cable snap at a offroad event and go clean through a 14" tree.

Yeah, there are those that will claim a steel cable will not recoil. They are misled.

I'm gonna buy a 4K winch to put on an RTV. I'll check out the Viper. What warranty does it have??

I've only had one Warn fail and it was a 3K on my Rhino. I snatch blocked it, tied the Rhino to a tree, then winched my Son's Jeep Buggy out of a swamp. Burned up the motor. Shipped it to a repair facility and they put on a new motor. Only cost me the shipping one way.

hitting on safety again I also will not connect two ropes together with anything but the ropes to each other. That wasn't always the case but a friend used a screw pin clevis to put two together. Needless to say one rope broke! A tailgate, rear window, windshield, and rear view mirror later his truck was finally repaired.. That clevis went through the tailgate like it didn't exist. The whole thing happening was louder than a shotgun and just as quick.

I think mine came with a two year warranty cant remember never had to use it. I got my first 3k warn fixed under warranty twice and it broke a third time after a couple months. It was out of warranty and warn refused to fix it again. I wasnt too upset because it was the free model that was yamaha branded and came with the atv, wasnt sealed and warn specifically says not to submerge it. So I replaced it with a model that warn says is ok to submerge and when it started having the same problems instead of shipping it back I went to the viper. Havent had any problems at all using it the same exact way I even kept the warn contactor and switch since it was already wired up and hooked the warn wires to the viper winch.

I don't think you can get to much winch on those utv's. We started with 3k's, then went to 4k's, but my buddy just upgraded to a 5k viper on his rzr 1000 and sure likes it. For the price it's tough to go wrong!

There was a guy who got killed at the mine I used to work at when a cable snapped, it was a gruesome accident to say the least.

Rick,

Yep. That's what I was getting at earlier. I can tell many Horror stories about mixing stretch ropes with anything other than another stretch rope. That's also why I posted the pics of how to tie them together. A clevis in the middle is just looking for someone to kill..... :(
