Anyone use ATV to plow snow?

I have a 2012 Sportsman 400HO, works excellent for plowing. They key is to stay on top of the snow, don't get behind on it.

I have a 60" Polaris Glacier III plow, also works great.

Started out with a vintage Yamaha Big Bear and a 48" plow with a manual lift arm, no winch...Worked great. As was said, don't let the now get ahead of you...4-5" of wet snow was very doable.

I've got a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 400 with a cycle county 66" poly plow(plow is 21" tall vs most ATV plows being 15") I put a couple of 60lb salt rock bags in the back of my ATV for extra weight. I live in MN, never had a storm that was too much to plow. I would love to get a plow and 3 pt blower for my tractor, but I can't justify them when my ATV and push snowblower have never not been enough. Also, we had a cabin near the north shore of Wisconsin for 30 years ( lots of lake effect snow) we plowed that with an 1989 Yamaha big bear and a 60" plow just fine. Up there you could be plowing 2 feet or more when we went up there on weekends

I had a Arctic Cat 454 with a Swisher plow before I got my tractor. It worked very well and I never had any problems with snow up to a foot deep on a mile long driveway. Four wheel drive is a must.

I have a Honda Rincon 650 with a straight 60" Moose plow. Never had a storm here in Maine I couldnt use it. One year we had an ICE storm that involved a coat of ice and heavy wet snow-snowblowers are useless but with tire chains I cleaned up my driveway in a heart beat. Plus ATV plowing is alot of fun. Deeper heavier snow you need to work the snow better like angleing the blade and taking smaller bites. You can even get cabs and snowblower attachments for ATVs. Your Honda 450 will do better than mine as I have a three speed automatic car like transmission (no low gear). It does the job well but I wonder if Im harming the transmission. So far its been 7 winters.

I have a 2007 Honda 420 Electric shift model, and I use a 60 inch Moose plow . It is by far the fastest way to plow when small amounts of snow and it was my first (before I had tractor) It has a Warn winch , but after first season I got rid of the steel cable in winch because it could not take the short 12 inch in and out wear, so I switched to the soft rope type they sell with the different rollers and that did the trick, no more broken cables. If you are dilgent on how you plow the snowbanks, and if you pack the lower part of the snow bank, eventually you can get the banks 7 feet high at 45 degree angle and your bike will be able to climb half way up and push the snow over the top. Pick the time and temperature to pack the banks and they will stay solid after that.

I have a '98 Polaris335 Sportman with a 4 foot plow that I use mainly for snow plowing at my cottage. The driveway is 250 ft long. I use the cottage about 4 to 6 times a winter. The only snow that gives a problem is the berms the road plows leave if they have a chance to harden before I get to plow them. I found quickly that low range and 10+ mph works best.
