Anyone use GALVANIZED wheels on their trailer?

My flat trailer that I use to haul my JD2720 has standard steel wheels (no not even spoked!) and they are leaking from the rims because of corrosion. Unfortunately I can't store this trailer inside so it gets the weather. Even using sealant doesn't stop the leaking for long.

I suppose putting in tubes would solve my problem but while looking at new (spoked!) wheels online I saw some that were galvanized.

Anyone have experience with galvanized wheels? They are about 100$ more for a set of 4 than steel wheels. Do you think they would stop my rim leaks?

I doubt it. Might fix it for a few years but why spend the money? If it were me I would just take the tires off, clean up the wheels real good, paint them, then have the tires remounted with some bead seal.

I've had galvanized wheels on boat trailers before and they were great. Maybe not the best looking but definitely not bad. I have never seen a spot of rust on them and never any leaking issues.

DP is right about cleaning them up and painting them. That would go a long way.

I think galvanized wheels are great. Functionally good, but not the most beautiful.

I bought a set for a utility trailer I'm building and I will never have to paint them, plus, they will never rust.

They are better looking to me than the plain jane white spoke wheels and usually don't cost that much more.

I've got them on my utility trailer, they're great, don't rust and don't leak. As for looks....ehhh, it's a trailer....Mike
