Anyone use "heat packets" from WMT for gloves?

I have used them alot over the years. They work well and are worth having available. In theory though, they should be in use before your toes or fingers get cold.

Just keep in mind- your fingers and toes getting cold are a good indicator that your entire body is getting cold. Although the heat packs will help with comfort, you can still lower your body temperature and not realize it.

If the insulation value of your gloves and boots are no longer effective, think about the rest of your insulation. It won't be long before the rest of the effectiveness is compromised.

The idea of the belt pack around the kidneys may help, I have placed a couple in my neck warmer- the idea being that where large blood vessels run near the surface- the can warm or cool the body.

I'm curious about the suggestion of having them on the wrists- I would think that warming the blood going into the hand is plausible, and would eliminate the bulkiness in the palm of the hand. I'll have to try that this winter

I use them for hunting. 2 for the boots, 2 for the gloves (back of the left hand, palm of the right when bow hunting or the bow twists) and 2 in the pockets. Hmmmm toasty.

I have used the hand warmers for many years....work pretty good....especially for hunting. They do make a kidney size warmer too. I have never bought them....but have seen them offered for sale.

Never used heat packets before, ordered some from amazon.com yesterday to satisfy curiosity. Naturally had to also order an expensive pair of goretex mittens to go with the warmers but not sure why. amazon.com can be addictive, they make it too easy to buy stuff ya don't really need!

I use them on those cold october football games. When both of my sons play- its usually the same place, but not same time so I'm there all day out in the cold. Those hand warmers and feet warmers are a godsend on those cold windy, rainy days. If you are feeling the chills with those warmers activated, then you don't have enough layers of clothing on.

I've used them quite a bit on deer stands....they work well, but seemed to me that they generate moisture. On a really long day after they quite working I found my boots quite damp....and uncomfortable. Even so, I still use them a lot.

The packets do contain a little bit of water, so you are probably not imagining things, Fred. They also have iron powder, salt, and charcoal in them. When you open one and oxygen hits the moist salty iron, it starts to form rust right away. Other than rust, the other product of the reaction is heat. The packets last until pretty much all the iron has turned to rust.

On the other hand, maybe your toasty warm feet just sweat a lot. :)

I use them in my heavy gloves or mittens when it is real cold out blowing snow. [ no cab ]... Tear the pack open and get it going about 20 minutes before you go out, and they work great. I bought a box on Amazon pretty cheap, but the ones at the checkout counter at the Wally are about the same after you pay for shipping. Before I used them my left hand would get cold just working the reverserer and steering, while the right usually stayed warmer for some reason. I bought the best winter mits I could find, and the warmest gloves, but the cold would still get to your fingers eventually. The packs are cheap and work great, only ***** is they last longer than I need them...and usually give them to the mail guy to finish the day... Next tractor will have a cab and front blower....someday....

I buy the ones at Sam's and they work great. I have used them in my gloves at work for the last 4 years. Sometimes I just open one and swap it back and forth in my gloves. They usually last about 8-10 hours. Sometimes you have to take them out and shake them up to get them going again. JC
