Anyone use Rotella T6 Full Synthetic in their LS

No we are not.
I never said 5w-40 started out thin then got thicker.
Rotella 5w-40 is a 40 weight oil, it does not start out thin when cold then get thicker. It is a 40w oil.
Oil thickens in extreme cold.
The 5w-40 has additives in it to help keep it from thickening as much when very cold.
If you take a 5w oil and put it in the freezer it will thicken.
If you put a 5w-40 in the freezer right beside the 5w the 5w-40 has additives so it should still pore the same as the 5w in extreme cold.
Yes, we are not.
,,,However; multiweights are "thin" oil that does not get thinner as quickly with heat. ... While viscosity of some oil bases is more heat stable, additives [as needed] inhibit thinning.

It really isn't that complicated. Oil thins when warms and gets thick when cold.

What it thins to when warm is the second number. What it thickens to when cold is the first. The cold number.is NOT an actual viscosity number. Rather a comparison to what oil it is similar to when cold.

Look at 3 oils.

Sae 5
5w40
Sae 40

Get them all to operating temp. 5 is gonna be real thin. 5w40 and 40 are gonna be identical since they are both 40 weight.

Now let them cool. 5 weight will thicken to its cold viscosity as will the 40 w. The 5w will still be somewhat thin. The 40 will be like molasses. The 5w40 will also thicken. But not as much. It will only thicken to the point the 5w oils does.

Thus it has the cold weather properties of a 5w, but high temp properties of a 40w.

But high temp 40w is still thinner oil than 5w cold. Thus 5w40 still thickens when cold.

Thank you.
That's what I have been trying to say on several posts.

Relatively I believe you are. What i understood you to say is that 5w-40 is no thinner than 5w when cold. Which says to me that 5w-40 is thicker when warm than 5w. Thicker when warm and thinner (or as thin) when cold.

All oil gets thicker at cooler temp and thinner as it warms,
Basically the first w number is flow rate at a given temperature the 2nd number is the shear strength compared to single weight oil at operating temperature , the reason most diesel engines use 15w40 doesn't have a thing to do with flow rate , it's solely oil fuel dilution...

With that being said , I contacted shell about useing T6 in my RX4040 their reply was it would be an excellent choice, I would recommend you contact shell as well as your dealer before switching , im running T5 at this moment but planing to switch to T6 at next change..

I just switched to Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 in my LS7010. It is not cheap here, $160 for 4 gallons. Suppose to be a good oil, so hopefully worth it.

I use Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil SAE 5W-40 in my LS 4040C... $21 a gal at my local wallmart , have run Rotella in so shape or form for the last 30 years never had any issues...

Why don't they recommend synthetic? Or premium this or premium that?
Most likely, because it isn't really necessary.

My nineteen year old Kubota has never seen a drop of synthetic or even synthetic blend oil and still starts and runs like the day I bought it. Regular PM is more important than using beyond what type of oil the manufacturer recommends.

I read a lot about people switching to this or that oil. What was it that prompted the switch. Weren't you satisfied with what you were using right along?
