Anyone use the mulch kit on their MMM

Hi Guys, how well does the mulching kit work on the mid mount mowers? Is it worth the extra cost or do you tough it out until June when growing slows down? I called my dealer and he wants $190 for the baffles and three mulching blades for my 62" deck. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I had the mulching kit on the 60" MMM on
the 4115. Good job of cutting EXCEPT, alot of blowout and
clumping during the early season when grass needs to be
cut every 3-4 days (twice per week).

I added a makeshift baffle to the left front edge of the deck
that wrapped around to the left side - problem solved. I used
duct tape and the black, vinyl (wall) edging that you put around
tile flooring.

Only problem is you have to be careful not to snag it when
mowing. The wife snags it and loses it (probably chopped by)
first time out - AND never knew it!

I switched to Gator blades, but I had to use a die grinder to
grind away two of the mulching baffles underneath the deck for
blade clearance.

Gators did a much better job except the blowout from the
left front side was terrible - it would cover the left
side; build up on the top of the deck; and worst, it blew
back and would cover you. I looked like scarecrow man
when I finished mowing.

Numerous complaints to the dealer, but nothing resolved.
Traded in the 4115 for a 3520 with the 7-Iron deck.
Haven't used it yet.

I bought a Grasshopper 928/D2 front mounted mower
last spring with mulching kit - cuts like a dream even
at petal-to-the-metal speeds.

Reclaiming the last section of land in mid-May with the
3520 and will seed. Since this area is part of the wetlands, it
does get a little wet. The Grasshopper would get
stuck back there, so we use the JD to cut with there.

I looked at doing a 62MMM drive-over to the 4115, but
decided just to go for the big-boy 3520.

The design of the 62" MMM looks very good - JD overcame
alot of complaints I had with the old 60" MMM. The new
deck is deeper from side-to-side which means less blowout
among other things.

Thanks for the responses to my question. I bought the kit today and decide to do test by mowing a section with my current setup and then changing it over to mulching and trying it that way.

Unfortunately for me while mowing the first area my mower started making a loud growling noise sort of like when you first engage the blades. Only it got longer and louder so I shut it down and went back to the barn. A long story short after several removals and inspections of the deck I found the top left pulley over the discharge chute had come loose. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif It was hard to find and finally as I tugged on the belt I saw it move side to side. After removing the guard and belt I see it's really loose and must be reamed out because it's so loose the hole must be twice the size of the shaft that goes through it. Have you ever seen that happen before? I only have 18 hours on this mower and about twelve is from mowing.

I have a mulching kit for a 62C deck. Never used, new in the box - bought it for my 2210 but upgraded to a 4720.
