Anyone use UTVs?

I am sure the company has to document the distribution of money it distributes to participants. IMO, the participants would receive a 1099 form rather than a W-2 form.

Steve

I've done 1099 contracting. There are some stringent laws about how 1099 is applied.
I have not received a response from Ignusa. It's only been a few hours since I responded and they are in California (they're Pacific time, I'm EST)

I receive 1099 forms for my consulting work. Also, farmers are supposed to provide 1099 forms if they pay more than $600 in a year to individuals for services (e.g., custom work).

It looks like the $600 threshold would not apply to the conference participants, so other rules may apply.

As I understand it, the IRS regulations/rules are designed to prevent companies from classifying "employees" as "independent workers/contractors."

If they get your SS# and possibly other pertinent info from their questions session, it would be so easy then to steal your identity. NO WAY would I give them any info of a personal nature to include even the state I live in. It is sounding more and more of a semi legitimate business that may easily scam or even sell the info gained to someone who does dupe folks of their money. I don't do any of those interview things even by phone.

That was my biggest concern...that, and if you've even taken online surveys, the "payment" turns out to be discounted magazine subscriptions.

If these folks want to follow through...I'll do the phone interview. I really don't care about the hundred bucks...
Again, let's see if they respond...I do notice they haven't responded to this thread (but that might be because of the time zone difference).

Really trying to figure out why a teleconference is necessary to ask someone questions about UTV's... seriously.

No knock to anyone who wants to do this for IgniteUSA, just kind of odd. UTV use is pretty straight forward... you would think an email exchange would work.

Then again, maybe they want to see the faces you make while using your UTV:

"Okay, Roy... go ahead and make the face you would make if you were on your Gator pulling a Ranger out of the mud."

:D

My wife and I have done several marketing sessions. The ones where you go sit in a room with ten people and the marketing people ask questions and start discussions about products. Usually pays about 100 dollars for the session.
NEVER, was I asked to provide a SSN. BE VERY CAREFUL. You might call this company from the number on the website and inquire about this study. See if it's legit.

As I read the IRS publications, a 1099-MISC is required to report payments of $600 or more for services performed for a trade or business by people not treated as its employees. I've had to fill them out when the amount to be paid was not clear in advance, such as referral fees.

But in this case the amount is known. However I can believe that a firm's accounts payable unit may insist on getting the information in advance in order to collect the payment information during the year in order to know which payees require filing. They can't be sure in advance that any one person won't end up getting more than $600 during the year.

I just finished up the conference and IT IS LEGITIMATE

They are looking for more respondents, so do contact these folks if you are willing to share your UTV experiences.

That's all I'll say. I don't want to bias or otherwise influence anyone

Did they allow you to use a phone rather than videoconferencing?
