Anyone use Warren hydraulic oil

Warren lubricants has been around for quite a while and is a major "relabeler" in the lubricants industry. In other words they blend and package lubricants for many house brands and factory lubes. As was already stated they are not a bottom shelf or top shelf lube, they are a middle of the shelf blender. Generally a good "bang for the buck" oil.

What you get out of a top shelf oil is a much more advanced/robust additive package and better quality oil base stock. They in general have better performance characteristics, reduce wear and have longer service lives. If you use a top shelf lubricant the best practice is to perform UOA's (used oil analysis) and take advantage of the longer service life. In my line of work I see top shelf lubes costing less every day. You pay more up front and reap the benefits over the extended life of the oil and reduced wear/breakdown. If you do use a top shelf oil check with your supplier as some do provide UOA's for free for their products. In the end it all comes down to what your willing to pay.

Now I would buy WalMart's UTF with no hesitation at all.

The reason is simple, if I follow the recommended oil change schedule and have a failure due to their oil, they have the deepest pockets around.

For that reason alone, they make certain their oil meets the specs they say it does.

Which means they also have the most lawyers. You just try collecting, they would rather spend more on lawyers than the claim would have cost them in the first place. Just remember, the deeper the pockets, the shorter their arms!

Thanks to all that replied. I'm thinking I will spend an extra $11 and buy the Shell hydraulic oil at Wal-Mart. The Warren oil says it meets the specs but I guess what bugs me is how they state the great profit margins that selling their oil has on their web site, rather than how great their product is like most other oil dealers. I don't want to sell their product, I want to use it in an expensive piece of equipment.

On a similar note, years ago when I was twisting wrenches, Texaco TDH was the popular universal oil, is this stuff still around and considered a premium oil?

Remember.. lots of contractors buy barrels of distribuitor branded oils for use in their equipment.. I believe we are using a fina oil now.. tractor fluid 56 / utf oil.. etc.

Most, if not all of the oil products sold by NAPA, that are NOT re-branded Valvoline are supplied by Warren. Go to a private label's MSDS sheets and find out the blender/packager. The yellow/green lid 5gal bucket, (85-605 IIRC) and 55gal drums are equiv to Valvoline 710 (303, 505, 134A, UDT, etc) with friction modifiers for wet brakes. I and plenty of others have used a lot of this with no problem for many years, so I have no problem with it, and unless I was looking upgrade to a synthetic for some reason, don't see a reason to pay 50% plus or more as long as it works as intended.

I did call Shell this summer in search of a good utf. Shell did confirm that they supply utf to Sam's Club and Wal-Mart. I checked a local Wal-Mart and they did not have any. I have used Shell and Sunoco fuel products only for years. Never had an engine fuel related problem. Have paid a few cents more each time, and usually buying the 92, 93 or 94 octane. I do the same with oils. Yes, many meet the specs, but for a few dollars more, the piece of mind that I put the best in to prevent the problem is worth it to me. I expect a lot from my equipement, but I also keep my equipment well maintaned. Fuel, oil, grease, for what its worth, spend a few bucks more and get the best. Charge a few bucks more for something others pay you for, it all comes out in the end. I never want to wonder if I had used a better fuel, grease or oil, would I be having this problem. Having said that, I like a bargin as much as the next guy, and if I can find a similar product significantly less expensive, I would consider it. Really though, unless you have a major leak, or you are changing all the oil, how much can you use? To me, not enough to make a difference to consider a minimum grade.

Hey, no problem. You ar ethe kind of consumer the premium cost oils love to see.

I do have a question though.. you mentioned 'changing all the oil'... are you saying that you only partially drain a sump and then add new oil? that seems very counter productive to me.

Also, 'how much can you use'? That's a realatve question... Those of us with larger tractors use more oil... figure 13+ gallons on some of the fords 70hp and up.. just for the utf fluids...

Just looking at 3 pails of oil from the dealer vs a cheaper palce like TSC or walmart.. then you can get a price differential of 90-150$.. now double that... 180$ vs 300$.. For instance if I change the hyd oil in my ford 5000 and my 7610s.. etc.

Texaco and Chevron has some kind of merger / acquisition or whatever going on, in the industrial line they are shifting away from the TDH and pushing towards the Chevron 1000 THF oil.

Same oil, different jug, different label. (god does it causes me problems. :D )
