Anyone used a Multiquip Whisperwatt generator?

The Aurora gensets are Chi-Com units. I've read some unsavory things about them somewhere but I can't remember where. If I remember correctly, they don't like ULSD.

On ULSD, I add a small amount of Bio-Kleen to each fill. Power Service makes Bio-Kleen herbicide for diesel....plus the Power Service of course.

I've been down the algae road before and it's not pretty.

Why not a Winco PTO genset if you have tractors of consequence. I believe Winco makes units with less than 2%THD.

I have thought about that, but that would tie up one or more of the tractors and could be problematic with kids running around. Also, they arent that much cheaper than a used diesel genset.

I believe the Chi-com Aurora units owners manual is referring to on road non ULSD fuel, something that's not commercially available anymore.

Amazing how creative the Chinese are, adopting a nice domestic name like Aurora when underneath it's all thrid world stuff.....

They say (on page 20 of the owners manual for the 5/6.5kw unit):

Diesel fuel only should be used. The regular diesel fuel you find at the gas station used for cars only. Not off road vehicles, farm or construction

I have three 275 gal heating oil tanks in my basement, so I always have a decent supply of old school diesel. I guess it would not be suitable for the new ulsd gensets though.

I've been eyeing those light tower trailers you see on the highway construction sites. they have small fuel efficient diesels in them. not sure how many watts but they are pretty heavy duty, commercial grade machines.
The contractor rental shops have them, and sell them when they come off the rental fleet.

just a little expensive, click on the brand and model for in depth specs. I went to their shop hoping to find a deal on a scratch and dent unit, but no luck.

I think it is an OK deal, maybe even better when you consider the fact that there are probably not alot of clean used ones available at any given time.

It is really a 6KW generator according to the specs, which state it's continuous output at 6, I'm surprised multiquip would call it 7000 in it's model number. that's something the lower quality companies do.

Per the manual, it is rated for 6kw prime (day in/day out 24x7x365 use) and 7kw "emergency" or standby.


Nonetheless, after discussing it at length with my wife, we are going to hold off until we have a little firmer idea of how much power we will need.

That does look very clean, if that was any closer I might of made him an offer on it. I'm kinda a generator nut, with four of them now, could of added to the collection

That comes with the extra fuel tank too ?

The only thing I don't like is the high rpm's, I guess they are designed for it, but 3600 is flat out gas whiz banger (as Soundguy calls it) speed, traditionally every other diesel turns much slower than gassers.

But if I heard it run so quiet as advertised, Id be tempted.
