Spreader anyone used this spreader?

I jot got back from the fertilizer dealer and bought 200lbs of 12-12-12 $10 for a 50lb bag. One of the guys I work with uses 10-10-10.

They had some Urea(sp?) that was 46-0-0($20-50lb), he said thats what they use at the airport. I passed cause I thought it might burn stuff come spring. I'm new at this so what do I know?

This is cheaper than K-mart etc.. I haven't checked into bulk pricing like 1000lbs dumped in the back of my truck. Anyone have info on that, price comparisons?

Bulk fertilizer at the farm is $200-400 a ton, depending on what formulation & the the price of natural gas this year....

wow thats a good idea I hate to put salt down.If 10-10-10 works why not anyone else hear about this?

If you use manufactured sand, it is only 4% salt, just enough to keep it from freezing into a solid block. It’s not like spreading pure rock salt. It only cost me $130 to have 10 tons delivered, so it’s a lot cheaper than fertilizer, and I don’t have to carry any bags round. Also, too much fertilizer MAY burn the grass in the spring, when it washes into the lawn, or feed some awful happy weeds along the side of the road.

While all these melting materials cause corrosion on vehicles if left unwashed, fertilizer is the most persistent (least soluable) on metal and in seams and crevices of your equipment. I won't ever use fertilizer for ice melting or traction on my asphault or concrete. In fact, I make sure I broom and blow the over-spread from my pavement when I fertilize my lawn in the spring and fall. Just my take on it...
