I fill up at Costco in Oregon when up I'm there. .80 per gallon cheaper than where I live in California. Never had an issue. For the tractor I use red dyed farm diesel from fuel supplier, which is another 20 or so cents cheaper.

From the horse's mouth;

Q: Does Kirkland Signature™ Diesel contain biodiesel?

A: Kirkland Signature™ Diesel only contains biodiesel where required by law. However, up to 5% biodiesel may be found in any US diesel fuel without it being marked on the retail dispenser. This rule allows biodiesel and regular petroleum diesel to be transported in the same pipelines and tankers.

The Kalamazoo Costco also does not sell diesel. I don't know why not, and I wish they did.

Bio diesel is refined vegetable oil rather than refined petroleum. It's a better solvent than regular diesel in many cases & can cause issues with seals & rubber. It also has more moisture issues than normal diesel. But it also lubricates better than normal diesel by a decent bit.

It's pretty common to have small percentages of bio diesel mixed into regular diesel. Up to 10% or so, at least for summer blends. I think it gells a little easier than normal diesel.

Off-road diesel (or home heating oil, same thing) is diesel with red dye in it to indicate you havent paid road taxes. It might be less likely to have bio mixed in due to the falling temps & the fact it's also heating oil, but that's not a guarantee.

Vegetable oil is one source of biodiesel. It's also made from animal fat and renderings. I'm familiar with biodiesel made from pork products. I assume it can be made from beef byproducts also.
