Anyone using RFID "tags" or similar to help find stuff?

I cant imagine just throwing your keys around like that. Sounds like they deserve to have to search for them. They need to become accountable for their actions, instead of having bad actions enabled.
I misplace things occasionally, but not because of random throwing them around.

Lots of people do that. A lot of women. Part of it is because a lot of women's clothing doesn't have any pockets. But I have seen guys do it too. But an "**** retentive" person like myself is annoyed by the behavior.

For my pickup, when it is home, I leave the keys in the ignition. They never get lost. Or my son can use it when he wants to. But on the other hand, my nephew, who is a former police officer, says that farm pickups are frequently stolen because of that.

We have a 6" wooden butterfly about 1/2" thick that's stained to match the trim in our kitchen. I screwed it to the wall with 4 cup hooks, very near the kitchen door. When we come in, the keys go on the hooks. When we go out, the keys come off. Haven't lost them yet. ;)

For keys that don't see daily use, I have a 30 key cabinet with tags similar to this. I mounted it in the area where we hang our coats near the kitchen mud area. Works great!

Everyone escaping the zombies in rural areas knows that the first place you look is the ignition, then above the sun visor, then the ashtray.... then you hotwire it, because, you know, that's so easy to do and the steering wheel lock is always not working....

I don’t have much trouble with vehicle keys. It’s the other key ring that has too many to fit in my pocket that’s the problem.

Re: Anyone using RFID "tags" or simlar to help find stuff?

The point is to know where to look each time every time. Just don't put them anywhere else.

Yep! Always one of two places, either in my pocket or in a specific desk drawer if not in the ignition.

I have violated this rule very seldom and in those rare cases I always regret it.

I have diff places I keep keys. I have LOTS of vehicles lol. 3 trucks, a E250 van, car and all the tractors, quads etc. turns out to be a lot of keys to lose.

My main key ring I carry all the time, it has a clip that I clip to a belt loop, off that clip is 4 links of chain so I can tuck them in my pocket so I don’t jungle.

Car keys aren’t on my main ring, those get dropped in a drawer in the kitchen or on my night stand, NEVER anywhere else. If I’m out and about with multiple sets of car keys I put them on the clip of the main set and drop those in a cup holder or center console of the vehicle I’m driving so the keys don’t become too much.

While I’m in the shop I hate things in my pockets crawling around on the ground etc. in my shop I have cabinets, the first drawer, I dump the contents of my pockets in to, shut the drawer and get to work. That drawer is the ONLY place keys, wallet, phone etc goes. Spent too much time hunting for stuff in the shop after dumping my pockets because keys or a wallet sucks to lay on.

RFID chips concern me, I prob won’t volunteer to support that technology, won’t spend money on them. RFID’s work in the Book of revelations.

I don't worry about misplacing a key when I'm near where I live, but nowadays when I travel I always have a spare key. Ever try to get a key made for a BMW motorcycle when you're out in the boonies 1000 miles from home, on a Sunday?:ashamed:
