Looking at Northern Tool magazine today and saw a 2 or 4 sealed beam lightbar, looks interesting

Thanks Mike

That's pretty cool. They need to make a front/rear/side combo. One unit that could clamp to the top of the ROPS. Four lights facing forward, one to each side, two to the rear along with the red/amber to the rear. Fully self contained (relays/switches/fuses). I'd be willing to pay real money for that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That would really be nice, but given that many CUTs only have 15 amp alternators up, it may tax the alternator and battery to add that much amperage. Those lights plus the tractor's existing would probably be way over the top for most. John

I thought about the current draw but a creative lightbar manufacturer could design it to only allow certain combinations at a time. For example, the fog lights on my wife's Durango go off when the high beams go on. Not due to current draw but the concept is the same.

I sent an email to the manufacturer with my suggestions as well as a link to TBN /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes! That would be excellent. Having all that utility light would make so many jobs feasible at night. I often want to do night jobs, but I only use one flood, and that's okay for say, the backhoe, or a little light loading, but I'd much prefer to have an easy solution to have side and rear/front lights when doing these sometimes dangerous tasks. I have a 50 amp alternator on my CK20, so I could add lights, but that many would be hard to do on a small machine. Good thoughts. John

I'm not really sure how much of a limit the alternator would be in this case. On the smaller Kubotas they really do put small alternators on the tractors, but I would suspect that someone using one of these lightbars might be putting it on a larger tractor? Larger machines typically have larger alternators. But it also varies by brand. My little NH has a 40 amp alternator and that would likely be enough to power the light bar, as John said the Kiotis use 50 amp units, also plenty of power; I'm not sure about the Deeres, but I was under the impression they had good size alternators.

The manufacturer could also reduce the electric load on some of their light bars (perhaps not the 4 light version) but the ones that have red & yellow lights, by substituting LED lights. I don't even want to buy cargo boxes for our trucks if they don't have LEDs on them, the up front cost is a bit higher, but the long term costs is lower while reliabiltiy is virtually bullet proof.

I often run 6 55-watt lights (forward facing) now. 2 on the ROPS and the 4 headlamps.

Seems pretty rare. I'd check the tag on the alternator to be sure. It should say clearly right on a label somewhere on it. John

John, the little 2210 subcuts use a 20amp alternator, as Deere goes up in size they increase their alternators. I was looking at one recently that had a 75 amp alternator. I think a 70amp unit on 4xxx series would seem about right.

The 790's also use a 20 amp alternator. A 35 amp alternator is optional, if I recall correctly.

I expect you'll find that 20 amp alternator standard up to the 4200 series tractors...maybe the 4310 too.
