John Deere 1025r with 120r front end loader, Hustler zero turn mower
In my tractor's owners manual the suggested API code is cc/se but I can't find that code on any oil.
The tractor is a M-F 1140 with Iseki Diesal engine 30hp
Any suggestions as to which motor oil I should use?

<font color="red"> API code is cc/se </font>

That is the minimum spec of the oil. Most oils today surpass that rating. Like cf/sj sl.

API

For more info about what they mean.

Is a higher letter in the code always better and applicible to all preceeding applications for oil. I know that with the GL-X greases if you have a geargox with bronze in it some of the GL series are not too good for it. Can't remember which one it is though....sure do hate it when the CRS sets in...

I know on our old Ford N-Series tractor.. the transmission, rear diffy, and hydraulic pump are a common sump.. and due to the yellow mwtals in the synchronisers, and in the pump.. we don't like to use gl-5 oils.. And generally we like to stick to a gl-1 pure mineral gear oil.. Though recently we have seen a pennzoil gl-4 product that claims to be yellow metal friendly.

Thanks Soundguy,
I had forgotten which ones not to use when yellow metal is present. Guess I will get a bucket of GL1 for the old gravely and troybuilt, both have yellow metal in the tranny.

gl-1 mineral gear oil for sure is ok.. but I think pennzoil does have a gl-4 that claims it is ok.. check out their website ( or just hit wallmart as they have gl-1 in 5 gallon pails.. )

Thanks Soundguy,
I am blessed with a couple of nice real country stores within 1/2 mile of my farm that sell most anything. They have generic GL1 in 5 gal buckets for as cheap as Wally World. Also a good place to hang out and gossip among the farmers and ask such questions as how the heck do you get the bead to seat on a new flimsy riding mower tire. The answer was," take it to the tire place and let the fight with it for 3 hours they charge a flat rate" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif The little country stores are great places.
